WEEK 1: BENGALS @ SEAHAWKS

last thought on this game.

It was a DAMNED good game to watch. It was refreshing to see two good teams duke it out, some really good defense and head coaches using their strengths and as best they could limiting their liabilities. They could've and should've won that game. The 3-5 plays others have referenced are on the mark.

It was refreshing to watch good football. I don't expect perfect.

With an outlook like that, why bother following the team at all? Seriously, what do you get out of it?

After all of the years, you have to ask those questions?

But, at least as to the second one, I do not get anything "out of it" other than what is has always been: entertainment. I never really was--and certainly not now--invested in it. It's a silly/corporate corrupt game...played by overpaid entertainers...solely for entertainment.

Yep, I agree completely. How many countless Bengals games have we watched over the years that were essentially unwatchable? You can't answer that because, as I said, they're countless. But yesterday's Cinci squad had an entirely new vibe to it, just like a real NFL team and every bit the equal of the Seattle Seahawks.  I think Zac Taylor has what it takes and is more than just the smooth-talking salesman I feared he might end up being.  That was just one game yesterday but I loved what I saw.

Hey, if you get entertainment out of watching what you consider a "silly/corporate corrupt game"  why not go all out and just watch the WWF ? Why go half way?

The Cincinnati Bengals lost to the Seattle Seahawks by just one point on Sunday. Here's why statistics say the Bengals should have won.

The Bengals lost a heart-breaker on the road against Seattle. According to NFL Pick Watch, no experts had the Bengals upsetting the Seahawks.

In fact, the Bengals finished between 8.5 to 9.5 point underdogs - second only to the Washington Redskins (10 to 10.5). But even with gambling Sportsbooks odds predicting a blowout, stats indicate that Cincinnati actually should have won this game.

The Bengals crushed the Seahawks in first downs (22 to 12) and total offensive plays (70 to 49). Their 6.1 yards per play was significantly higher than Seattle's 4.9 and Cincinnati was more efficient through the air.

The total yards weren't even close in this contest, as the Bengals dominated the Seahawks 233 yards with 429 of their own. Andy Dalton also more than doubled Russell Wilson's numbers through the air.

However, the deciding factor in this game was turnovers and missed opportunities. Though they didn't throw an interception, the Bengals lost 3 of their 4 fumbles to Seattle.

It also didn't help that Randy Bullock missed a field goal that would have likely resulted in the win.

There's no sense crying over spilled milk, and Zac Taylor will take this one back to the drawing board. However, it is at the very least encouraging to know that the Bengals dominated statistically this game.

This is why they lost the game, not because of some corrupt bullshit theory.  This is why anyone loses a game.  Poor coaching, poor execution.  Not corruption.  So ridiculous.

I'll disagree about the players being overpaid.   The NFL is raking in billions for the franchise owners & they aren't the ones out there on the field ruining themselves.  We've seen that the players risk a significantly reduced QoL after football even if they don't completely lose their minds in the process.  They're getting paid what the market demands, just like anybody else. Does the CEO of Chase Bank deserve it more than them? Blame the market itself, IOW our collectively fucked-up sense of priorities, for their salaries if you want to blame someone.  They're not the ones making us spend more on pro sports than public education. Most of them spread their money around through various pet NPO's too, & even if that's just for tax relief I would bet NFL players engage in more philanthropy than the average multimillionaires.  Even if they blow it all on hookers & frog dust I don't begrudge them a nickel.

Gladiators in Rome were "overpaid" by the slave standards of the time--they had to do it well, or die. "Begrudging" NFL players is not the point--they make what the market gives them for their entertainment value. I don't blame them--nor what their corrupt employers can glean from the agreeable public. Goods for services--the old business creed. The population decides as to what is the market--they buy the product. I buy the actual product a few times a year (I used to buy it 8 times a year). I don't concern myself with what the entertainers or their employers do with what I pay: I get entertained, which is what I figure to get in the business transaction. If I think I pay too much for that product--or Netflix, or Tide, or Hyundai..I don't buy it. If the product is bland, uninteresting, or predictable, I stop buying it. None of us are forced to worship at the altar of the NFL.

All in all, I do not give a flying fuck over who gets paid what, who doesn't get paid what, who should get paid what, or what someone does with it when they do get it. Once the moolah leaves my hands, it is out of my hands. Just...

Before we fall too much in love with Ross you need to take a closer look at his performance.  He absolutely dropped a pass that could have been a huge play.  We all saw it happen.  The following play he made up for it but the reality is the DB should have easily either intercepted it or at least deflected it.  He was there long before Ross and completely misjudged the ball.   The reality is Ross probably should have gone up for the ball to prevent what should have been an easy int. Not everyday you see an NFL DB completely mistime his jump and let the ball go over his head.

Ross is certainly a very dangerous player when healthy, properly runs his routes and catches the ball.

Well lets hope he becomes the receiver that can contest a ball, he's making steps at least.

You can't just feature the bad, hell he's here and had his best game so far, why shit on it?

Because he still made too many rookie mistakes. He isn’t a rookie.

Wow! How refreshing. I thought all coaches said was We have to do better and then stared with a stupid smile

I'd heard snippets of this earlier, but just watched the entire thing thanks to Old's link.

Refreshing is quite the understatement.  The contrast is unbelievable.  I know time will tell, but so far he's pushing all the right buttons IMHO.
