As one of the NFL’s winless teams through three weeks, the Cincinnati Bengals rank highly among teams in the race for the 2020 draft’s first overall pick.

One way to analyze the chances at earning the top overall pick and overall odds for landing in a certain pick range is ESPN’s Football Power Index.

Using that, the Bengals would currently pick fourth and have the third-best odds to earn the top pick:

Average draft position: 6.5
FPI chance to earn No. 1 pick: 4.7%
FPI chance to earn top-five pick: 51.3%

The FPI uses team grades and locale to simulate the remaining games on the schedule 10,000 times to come up with its numbers.

Zac Taylor and the Bengals would obviously like to right the ship and win games as opposed to securing a top pick.

But at the least, it doesn’t hurt to have this sort of context given how things have unfolded so far for a winless team with many problems, ranging from injuries to talent acquisition on top of a new staff trying to pull it all together.
