Wilson was getting some props after being signed as a free agent and did OK in preseason. I certainly think he can't do any worse than Ross. All he has to do is hold on to the ball. Yeah, a pretty daunting task for our wide receivers but that's OK. Whatever, at least he will be a fourth for bridge on the sidelines on the inactive list if nothing else. |SF2|
In 2017, the NFL changed the IR with return designation so that you no longer have to designate the player who will get the designation at the time they are placed on the list. Now, teams can bring back any two players they've placed on IR at any time after the eight week mandate to be on the list has been met. So it looks like Ross can come back Dec 1 against Jets, just in time for our home field advantage stretch. That will make 24 games missed by Ross in 3 seasons IF he comes back in December and plays out the last 4.

Let's look at how many times he's under thrown the WR. Oh everytime it's over 10 yards.

|High School Harry|
I'm ready to part ways with John Ross III altogether. Waste if a roster spot. And bust. Officially.

BengalFanInTO
This team either has the worst luck with first round draft picks or, they super suck at drafting. I think it's a little of both: Jonah Williams-Missed 4 of 4 Games including (likely) the entire first season Billy Price-Missed 6 of 20 Games including 6 games in his first season John Ross-Missed 16 of 36 Games including 13 games in his first season William Jackson-Missed 17 of 52 Games including his entire first season Cedric Ogbuehi-Missed 29 of 64 Games including 11 games in his first season Darqueze Dennard-Missed 16 of 84 Games Tyler Eifert-Missed 53 out of 100 Games Dre Kirkpatrick-Sucks and has unfortunately been healthy most of his career but missed 11 games in his first season Essentially, of the last seven years of draft picks, they've missed 141 of 360 games (39%). That's crazy.

It more about justifying their draft grade and making sure they aren't labeled as a bust. If it's your job to draft and re-sign the players are you going to admit you have no clue and made a mistake or are you going to double down on the bad decision and keep guys on the roster longer than they should be? This is how Dre Kirkpatrick gets an extension, Ced plays all 5 years of his rookie deal, Bobby Hart gets a raise after playing horribly, and Andre Smith gets brought back again despite being backup for one of the worst lines last year. If it's a (singular) mistake hopefully I recognize it & learn from it. If it's instead a pattern of mistakes then I probably won't have the job very long anyway. However I don't work for a family business with a huge guaranteed income we receive just for existing. I dream of a day when the Bengals put together a roster based on "who are the best 53 players available?" instead of all this other bullshit.
