Dumpster Dive du Jour

The Cincinnati Bengals are in dire need of linebacker help, so they’ve added one to the practice squad.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, free agent Brady Sheldon is being signed to the Bengals’ practice squad.

LB Brady Sheldon (Green Bay Packers) has signed with the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad, per a source

The 6-5, 220-pound Ferris State alum signed with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He went on to make the team’s practice squad and was signed to the 53-man roster in December.

After being waived over the summer of 2018, Sheldon was claimed by the Cleveland Brownsand eventually made their practice squad before being cut from it in the middle of the 2018 season. He finished the season on the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad, then spent all of this previous offseason with them before making the practice squad. He was cut from it on October 1st and has been looking for work since then.

For his career, Sheldon has appeared in two games with no recorded statistics.

Coming out of college, Sheldon was an athletic freak with crazy testing numbers. He ran a 4.52 40-yard dash at his pro day, which would have been the best of any true linebacker at the Scouting Combine in 2017.

Sheldon’s vertical of 37 inches would have been tied for second at the combine among linebackers, and his 10.5-inch broad jump and 4.24 short shuttle would have both been top-five finishes.

For whatever reason, Sheldon’s not been able to translate that athleticism into actual NFL production, but he’ll get another chance to do so in Cincinnati.

6'5" is too tall for a linebacker.  Too easy for blockers to get into his midsection and blow him out of a play.

Can't stick with a team, for some reasons except that he sucks.  But considering we have Nick Vigel as a starter...

Kind of sounds similar to Milak Jefferson and the new guy we have not getting his knocks and getting OJT.

Can he play some safety?  Sounds like he would be a plus on special teams, kick blocker or something.

Once again, has to be better than BM Webb et al.

Yeah, probably cut next week but the Bengals are building and trying to improve their own way.

Picking guys up the NFL landfill.

They are also currently ranked #2 in Division II football.

ODU used to have to play them when they were in the GLIAC.
