Smart move.  If he Blows up with Joe, they'll be able to work out an extension, without having to guarantee another year now.

If he blows it up could we justify spending the money he would command?  Can the team afford 3 high paid receivers?

A lot of that depends on what happens with AJ, I suppose.

The chances of AJ and Ross playing 8 games or less a piece is way higher than them both. “blowing up” this season.  It would be wonderful if it happens, but ....

Smart move. He’s now essentially in a contract year. Put up or shut up.

True that, each year you hear about all the potential and speed and whatever. His best ability at this point would be availability...gotta stay on the field

3 of the last 6 on that list suck.  Hard to win when you whiff on your first round pick that often.  Congrats, Tobin!

i agree its less than stellar..

pats not exactly killing it either.. tho they tend to not have one sometimes..

The fact is picking a wide receiver high because he is really fast has never been winning strategy.   When there are 3 WRs chosen in the  3rd round in the same draft as Ross that all have at least  1900 more receiving yards,  you can only call the pick what it was based on position:  Complete Bust.   BTW, the list of  highly drafted guys finally "Getting It" in the NFL after 3 years is an extremely short one.   Ross only needs 2200 more receiving yards to catch Warrick.

The Stillers:

Take James Washington in round 2

Take JuJu in round 2

Take Martavis Bryant in round 4

Take Emmanuel Sanders in round 3

Take Antonio Brown in round 6

I've leaving out some duds but they weren't taken in round 1. Limas Sweed was the worst and he was taken in round 2.

Last 2 Stiller WRs in first round: Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress

The Bengals draft in the top 10 and get garbage like Ross.

They are playing chess, the Bengals are playing checkers.

sadly something could be learned from the steelres drafts... 9/11 picks are defense and hella linebackers..

I think a  lot of the time the Bengals fell in love with athletic ability instead of being able to actually play football.  Hopefully that era is over.

Unless they hired a pro NFL-level scouting department and didn't tell anyone, it hasn't.  They don't have college scouts so they end up relying on measurables and the few schools where the coach/scouts have connections.  Coaching the Senior Bowl this year was a big help but most of the time they're drafting at a significant disadvantage.

Watching actual video will do it, not highlight reels, actual games.  It's not that hard.  It does take a lot of time though.  I would rather have an actual coach do it than a scout, but there are only so many hours in a day.
