It feels like a bit of an obvious fit to go play with his brothers but, Stealers are not really looking like a contender right now (likely the third best team in their own division) along with salary cap issues as you mention. It's certainly not out of the question but, I'm not sure a guy likely looking to win a Super Bowl at 31 years old making the Stealers his choice. Some teams I've heard bandied about so far aside from Pittsburgh are: Green Bay-He's from Wisconsin and they are a contender with a decent defense and a need for a pass rusher but, they have some cap issues of their own. Buffalo-A up and coming contender with a need for a pass rusher and the likely ability to create the cap space. Indianapolis-A playoff team with a solid defense and tons of cap space. Baltimore-A scheme fit and some cap space to make it happen. Tennessee-A playoff team and a connection between Vrabel and Watt and the likely ability to create the space to make it happen. Tampa Bay-The easy one coming off the Super Bowl and possibly losing Shaq Barrett but they've got a lot of their "own" to re-sign. Seattle-A contender with a need and some cap space. I cannot believe there are currently 13 teams over the projected cap with 7 teams more than $20 million over. I think it's going to be a very interesting offseason especially when you include the potential QB changes that could be on the horizon.

Teams were planning for continued growth in the cap. If I recall, the early projections were $210M cap or something like that for 2021. Most teams back load contracts which uses the future cap growth. The Saints were in cap trouble BEFORE the cap drop so now they are cap hell . In the cap world, 1 year out of 20 Mike Browns way works. But it will only work for 1 or 2 years max. Once the higher cap number returns, the salaries will skyrocket again as each team will have loads of space.

snarkster
I know it's probably the most wishful of thinking that Mikey Boy and wunderkind go big on a top OL FA (especially an OG). I also know how he loves him some franchise QB's. Hoping against hope seeing Geaux endure so many hits (culminating in the season-ending injury) last season that MB's pucker factor soared and will lead him to loosen the purse strings to address the OLine. Of course, I'm still waiting for the pony I asked for @ Christmas a half-century ago.

Its a decrease of $18.2 million from last year (cap was $198.2 million in 2020). The worst case was around $175 million for this year. It isn't the worst case reduction but it is pretty stark. Helps teams like the Bengals who have cap space. To put this in context, teams were, pre-Covid, planning for a salary cap this year around $210 million and would have planned for such. There will be teams who are close to $30 million over the anticipated cap with it coming in at $180 million...

membengal
The previous estimate that I saw was $180.5 million so this is $500,000 worse than that. Regardless, you wrote it weird. Teams have $18,2 million less cap than a year ago and effectively $30 million less than they were planning. It is a buyers market for the few teams that have cap space. The Bengals have cap space. Time to go shopping.
