*** RD 1 BENGALS DRAFT - JA'MARR CHASE (WR) ***

Recommended Posts

A flash in the pan WR! No surprise here.   How will he get open when Burrow will be scrambling?  This organization will never learn!  Lose AJ Green insert JaMaar!  Ridiculous!  Anyone know why Munoz is an HOFamer and not one other Bengal?  Hello!  Detroit got a steal!  Like Booger said on ESPN, Joe was about to be sacked 50 plus times before his injury!  Good Luck protecting that other knee. People screaming there are other picks?  😂 That player will start?  Um, ok, if you say so.

This is a hot take right here.

If Chase is a "flash in the pan" so was Joe Burrow coming out

Honestly, Burrow kind of was a flash in the pan one year wonder at LSU.  Luckily, he played in a high end offense where he had to make big boy throws against good teams.

Maybe but the voices complaining last year about picking him were minimal at best.

2021 NFL Draft Day 1 winners, losers: 49ers up, Justin Fields down

The LSU Bengals: Tackle Penei Sewell was still on the board when the Bengals picked fifth overall, but that doesn't diminish my love of their ultimate selection of LSU receiver Ja'Marr Chase. It's not all about the connection between QB Joe Burrow (last year's No. 1 overall pick) and Chase, his former college teammate, although that doesn't hurt. It's about how special a prospect Chase is.

I'd argue there hasn't been as complete and revered a wideout prospect since Julio Jones in 2011. Sewell is a nice player, too, but he is not at that level, regardless of positional value. And it's not like the Bengals have ignored tackle! They drafted Jonah Williams No. 11 overall in 2019 and signed Riley Reiff, a solid enough NFL starter, this offseason. They will surely add to the offensive line later in a deep draft at the position.

This should be the most exciting Bengals offense since Chad Ochocinco, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chris Henry were catching passes from Carson Palmer. Last year's second-round pick, Tee Higgins, is an incredible deep threat and already plays like a star. Tyler Boyd is one of the best slot receivers in the league. I can't think of a more promising young receiver trio.

Tee Higgins was mentioned yesterday as having an issue.  Not sure what posters mentioned it but it would help to make sense why they were set on drafting Chase well before the draft started.  Yeah yeah the Joe Burrow connection and magic they had together in college.  Great.  Joe Burrow sending out a tweet before the draft telling Chase to pack his bags.  Etc...

Does Tee Higgins actually have issues ?  Route running maybe.  Great long threat but you're going to need time for that.  Chase is certainly explosive enough to make defense's pay a price.  ...or did we get him because of a fault in Tee Higgins that made WR a position of glaring need ?

Someone clarify if there's a verifiable issue with Tee Higgins.  Thanks in advance.

Just crossing my fingers the Bengals can get a lineman that can help them this year.  The injury history of the the guys penciled in to start is scary.

They will not get another chance at a blue chip starter on the OL this year.  Might get a serviceable starter but doubt it will elevate the line over the pitiful performance last year.  However, I think that Jim McNally and Frank Pollack work well together.  While Jim McNally may only be listed as a consultant, he's one of the greats IMHO.  Hopefully, those two can elevate mediocrity into something serviceable and something that won't get Joe Burrow a trip to the emergency room.  IF even that small of a lift were to happen, we might want to hold on for a hell of a ride similar to 2009.

True but we obviously needed a QB.  It was our biggest priority.  Our biggest priority this year has been a very good debate.  I would even say Micah Parsons would have been a great pick at #5 based on need.

In the National Champsionship game 2 years ago ... the 2 BEST WR on the field were Chase & Higgins.

And now Burrow has both of them.

Finding fits for the Cincinnati Bengals: WR Ja'Marr Chase

Fantasy Football Fallout: Bengals Draft Tee Higgins | Sharp Football

If Burrow gets any time to throw, this team will be put up A LOT of points.

No more stacking the box to stop the run and double teams on Boyd or Higgins.

There will ALWAYS be a mismatch somewhere

Chad and TJ made our team relevant after 12 years of misery.

As much as people want to give him shit Tuke Tobin who came on in 99 has drafted FAR better than we were doing before he got here. Has he had some misses? 100% yes he has, but he's got some stars as well.

Dufus Tobin's draft record is pretty much 'average' which indeed was a big change from the Mikey/Lippincott shit show.

Problem remained they stuck to bad picks too long and did not use FA to fix holes from picks that did not turn out. We now are into FA but that is because of the total drafting disasters over the past few years. When we have to re-sign Bates, Hubbard, JB, Higgens, Jonah, etc we will be have no cap room for free agents so we will HAVE TO draft well to fill the roster and be competitive.

If all those guys become the stars we expect them to we will have to remind ourselves that we drafted them.

True dat.

As of today our top 3 paid players this season are FA's - which speaks to the ability to draft or at least speaks to the recent history of drafting
