Bengals at Bears Game Thread - 2021 Season Week 2

Recommended Posts

As others have said, typical Zac Taylor game - poorly designed vanilla offense attacking likely "ghosts" of what they saw on game film and the opposing D seems to know everything that's coming.  Couple that with leaky blocking and you're in for an embarrassing day.

Once again the only time the offense seems to look decent is either when they get out of their game plan and Joe runs it OR the other team goes into prevent/shell and you can pick spots.  They have to set a tone and get the o-line into the game early with runs and just plain power plays, but honestly it doesn't matter much when Taylor is constantly baffled.

The interior line is just bad

Jonah Williams was simply awful today. #94 handed him his ass.

But you had plenty of plays with guys just coming free from everywhere. Center needs to be making those line calls, and each man has to trust the guy next to him. Neither happened today. Let's hope they figure it out.

*Rookie QB-Led team

I can't accept that correction because you actually said  "A rookie qb does it to us again.".. that is saying specifically it was the QB that beat them and not the team. That is something we do as fans. If next game we are low on timeouts, someone will say how Taylor can't manage the clock, but today we had all our timeouts down the stretch of each half ... and that has been the case with Taylor from the beginning. It's something I notice bc Marvin was so bad at it.

A lot of this.  Some of that is on Burrow too.  He and his receivers have to see the blitzes and go to hot routes.  Not seeing much of that.  Then again, he is a QB who just played  his 10th NFL game.  He's got some growing to do.

The feed I watched on was terrible.  Were there many deep shots before the Chase TD?  Didn't seem like there were doing much at all to keep the Bears honest.

Just one to Higgins. Too much too short too often. They were sitting on the routes.

Just an observation but if the Bengals try to go deep more often and Burrow gets sacked, the reaction is the line is weak .. have to get the ball out quick .. bad coaching. If they get it out quick and throw a couple ints, the reaction is the D was sitting on the routes should have thrown deep .. bad coaching. And if neither the deep or quick passing game is working, should have run the ball more .. bad coaching.

Kind of the same thing with people who claim they know what plays are coming. you know there is only 2 options: run or pass. so if you're basing it off run or pass, it'll seem like you know most of the plays. But if you're looking at packages and formations, you see a totally different scheme/game. Just saying.

I am sure Andy told them everything about this team.

When guys are confident enough to sit on routes, as both Burrow and Chase said, they know what's coming.  Maybe the Bengals don't run enough variety out of each package?  The offense is crap and it has to be something.  Yes, the blocking isn't good enough, but it's more than that.  At no point last season did this happen to Burrow.  Every good offense does something to keep the defense on it's toes.  What are the Bengals doing?

Is it good or bad that your rookie WR is taking shots at the playcalling?

Fine by me. Someone has to turn the heat up on the playcaller. Everyone could see it in real time. Except for the head coach who calls the plays. That's a problem.

I agree.  Weird that it's a rookie, but someone has to do it.  All the bragging on each other the Bengals do every preseason is fine, but when someone isn't getting it done that has to be called out too.  Player or coach.  Not sure much of that is going on with the Bengals.
