just heard a little bit on the CNN while i was at lunch today waiting to be seated. They were interviewing a guy in new orleans that was complaing that the government wasnt helping him. His response as close to exact as i can be:

"The cops came to my house and told my family to get on this bus and leave but i wanted to ride out the storm. We were trapped in our house for days until they finally got us out, what kind of government is that. There were reasons i didnt vote for George bush and this is one of em."

Heaven forbid that people take responsibility for their own decisions....what would the world come too!

Peoples inability and refusal to take responsibility for their actions, and be proactive in their lives, not reactive, is what causes the greatest seperation in classes and in race. One of the greatest leaders and definitly the greatest human rights activist (Martin Luther King, Jr.) said it best in "the speech":

"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today."

Sadly, while people often quote those words, they fail to hear them. He was trying to motivate people to be good people, to take responsibility, to live their lives as best as they can. This "dream" is deeply rooted in the American Dream, which is alive and very much kicking. People are not judged so much about the color of their skin anymore, as every claiment of victimization states (victimization is usually self imposed, and the so called "leadership" of minorities has done more damage to their moral than probably any other factor in the past 40 years), but rather, they ARE judged by the content of their character. And it only takes a few bad apples to ruin the entire barrel. It is the responsibility of leadership within the minority communities to finally get their heads out of their asses, stop blaming others (this is America, not fucking somalia), and gather the courage to lead their people into the 21st century with the rest of the country. Encourage education, marriage, safe sex, proper grammer, and responsibilty. Help give them a reason to live, and a cause for pride. Help them dig out of the self imposed imprisonment. Then, the ghettos will not be like this. The people will have the ability to fight or flee. Rescue workers will want to help, rather than worry about being shot by the ignorance of the community. This race card victim shit everyone around the country pulls (not just katrina) has nothing to do with the government anymore, and everything to do with an entire race of people helping one another to become succesful in life. Taking responsibility for yourself is the first step, but helping other realize their responsibility and realize their potential is a far more honorable task. Unfortunately, alot of people dont give a damn about each other being integrated into the mainstream society.

Heres the whole speech if anyone needs a reminder
