Comprising the Modern-Era list of candidates are three players in their first year of eligibility, two players previously eligible but Finalists for the first time and 10 players who at least one other time have reached this stage in the Selection Process. The full slate of Modern-Era Player candidates will be considered when the Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee meets virtually Jan. 18, 2022. Three others — Dick Vermeil, Art McNally and Cliff Branch, the finalists in the Coach, Contributor and Senior categories, respectively — also are candidates for the Class of 2022. Voting on each of those three will be held individually, in conjunction with the meeting to decide the Modern-Era Players. The Modern-Era Player Finalists were determined by a vote of the Hall’s Selection Committee from a list of 123 nominees named in September that was reduced to 26 Semifinalists on Nov. 24. AmishBengalFan Posted December 31, 2021 Report Share Posted December 31, 2021 I have to believe that the Front Office's newly-found emphasis on acknowledging our history - namely, the Ring of Honor - plus the Bengals' resurgence this year have combined to raise awareness at the League-level of how shafted this half-century-old franchise has been from the perspective of the Hall of Fame. While it's true that the HoF voters should only consider the candidates on their own merit, there may be a subtle underswell of support for Cincinnati now to remedy the oversight errors of the past. Willie will be the first chance to test this theory. There's little that can be done for Kenny Anderson and Ken Riley, considering the decades that have passed, they're probably looking at access to the Hall via the Senior committee. Steve Smith was an outstanding WR but he was never really the top receiver in the league for any period of time and that might play into him not getting in yet. Anquan Bolden was an outstanding receiver but the same goes for him as well.. Id give Tory Holt a slight edge over them because he was outstanding as well plus he was a go to guy on the acclaimed "Greatest show on turf" team..
