This really pisses me the hell off.   I said all off season and camp they needed to upgrade the 4th WR spot.  I'd just as soon give chases reps to Chris Evans as anyone in the back row of the receiver room.  You could always go with two-TEs at times if we had a TE other than Hurst that was worth half a shit.

Calling Mitchel Wilcox..front and center...

Next man up in the NFL..

Couple things.

  1. The fact that they have not put him on IR is a good sign that he will be back this year.
  2. Bo Jackson had a hip replacement, Tab Perry had a hip dislocation. Jamar has a hairline fracture and a torn labrum (the extent of the tear we don't know, but again see the first point)
  3. You don't trade away the future for the present, the team is still young it's not like we are talking about Joe's last years and needing to win the championship now.
  4. OBJ was only a head case when he wanted out, he was just fine in LA last year, and nobody is suggesting signing him past this year anyway. This locker room is strong enough to handle him for the remainder of the season.
  5. We wont be trading or signing OBJ unless this injury is much more serious than they are saying, and if it was they would have put him on IR, the reason that has not happened is if he goes on IR the bye week doesn't count for your allowed time before coming back.
  6. The next 4 weeks we play 3 teams we can beat without Jamar and the bye week, if it lasts longer than 4 weeks that may be a challenge.
  7. Most teams dont have the luxury of 3 good WRs and most dont have two guys you can call a #1. You draft BPA and if a WR isnt BPA when you are drafting you dont take one, suggeting we have to have 4 top WRs is silly.
  8. It is an impact but we will have to make due for the next few weeks against some shitty teams.

Let's hope he can heal up quickly and be 100% sooner than later.

Yeah I believe so, more for the ability to get downfield quickly and block, plus hands if something goes sideways.  Very common to have WR's on return teams from what I've seen.

Nope, well, not for the Bengals.  Only one and that was Thomas against ATL.  I said, WRs and I even mentioned starters.  Mainly it is LBs, and DBs for kick offs and use RBs and TEs for kick returns for their blocking skills, etc…

Have we not heard this about players before that they would return by this time and that time from this organization and it never occurred?  We shall see but, I would not hold my breath.

During Zack Taylor's time?

He's not Marvin.

Daniel Jones probably loves him, too.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

WR'ss definitely do play on teams, starters typically do not outside of a very few specialists.   It's a different skillset so ST coaches grab whichever guys can do the thing.  If you are an NFL backup you're probably playing on at least one of the kicking teams regardless of position.

Guess I'm not sure what you were asking exactly.

Been reading a lot of chatter on Cincy Jungle about theories (C-word excluded) that the Bengals haven’t been straight with the public regarding the labrum tear. The prevailing screeches (including all associated “contacts with the organization”) are claiming the tear is, depending on “contact”:

Torn worse than described

Torn as described, but surgery still recommended in order to prevent long-term issues.

All kinds of “shut him down now” wailing going on.

It’s all very serious, and not hyperbole. This did get me thinking (and follow-up reading about labrum tears/treatment) that this part of the injury may not be a simple as “4-6 weeks of rest”.

We shall see I reckon

MRIs don’t show everything.  He’ll probably shut it down for 4-6 weeks, get imaging to confirm the bone has healed, and then start running, cutting etc.   If he has discomfort he would probably be shut down at that point and surgery would be likely.

The Bengals made the right pick with Chase. No chance they go to a Super Bowl without him, but Sewell is one hell of a player too.

I’m reading the concerns are not so much for the hairline fracture…which will heal with the rest…but the labrum.

The “slight tear” may worsen without direct treatment (aka surgery), and possibly could tear completely with use. The chatter is that “4-6 weeks of rest” may mean absolutely nothing in terms of the labrum

I am still digesting the yakking—and it may likely be nothing but that—and will offer a sampling once put together

Yes.  I was referring to that.  The MRI must not look so bad as it applies to the soft tissue, but you never know for sure.  If the bone heals and he is still in discomfort in 4-6 weeks they will know they have a labrum issue.  If the MRI had show much damage they would have shut him down.

Rest the bone and hope the labrum isn’t a problem.

Yeah, that's my read too. Chase saw a hip specialist on Wednesday who apparently did NOT recommend surgery but instead that he rest the hip for 4-6 weeks. Adam Schefter said that Chase was looking to immediately get a second opinion on the hip. I assume that another opinion was requested for both best and worst scenarios - to find out whether surgery actually would be the best course of action, and if the 2nd opinion again was NO then see if the rest timeline was too long.

Since the team waited until yesterday to make the decision not to put Chase on IR for at least 4 games, the 2nd opinion must have been at least as optimistic as the first. Surely no Bengals fan feel that Chase should have surgery just to "err on the side of caution" since surgery also carries real career risk for a 22 year old athlete. Beat writers with good sources like Dehner/Hobson have already indicated that Chase would likely be held out at least 3 games with a bye week sandwiched in the middle, then evaluated after to see how much he has progressed. At that point all parties can then decide what comes next for Chase, both in the short term and the long term.

That certainly seems like the most reasonable treatment plan for Chase at this time to me. Does anyone here really disagree with that?

Zac hires the doctor?

Zac is the one who reports to the media the seriousness of injuries, to date I don't think he has done what Marvin did where he is less than honest about the seriousness of an injury and the time that will be missed.

I don't think he has done the "bone bruise" thing.

You said, it was common for WRs to be on STs and I said, nope except a backup.  Exactly, not the starting WRs.  And the only backups are Morgan and Thomas and for the most part only one does the most.  I am not talking the KOR or PR.  I am talking to block and tackle.  Starters do play on STs from all different positions.  All you have to do is look at the gamebooks and you will see their snap counts/plays on STs.
