Going to Carolina In My Mind Week

Nope. We get PJ Walker making his 2nd or 3rd start.

Thank you for the correction, but I'm not certain it makes me feel any better given our history with the young upstarts. I must admit that cleveland loss took a lot out of and I've steered clear of most nfl news this week so far. Time to catch up I guess.

Me, either.

A chance for Britt and Hill to shine.

No?

Depends. Hill has no experience at corner—although I remember somewhere seeing he might fit in a slot role. CTB on an island is going to be a long/painful process.

Dunno what will happen with them. Maybe OK against CAR, but thereafter…?

Agree..

BTW.

Swansea is 8th with a record of 8-4-4

for 28 pts..

3rd place team is 10-8-0 for

for 30pts..

I don't like 3pts for a win..

Look at their winning % ..

Does the Premier league score wins as 3?

I'm for it, both these guys are supposed to be the future & the team is struggling to stay at .500

No point sitting them for a redshirt season at this point, let's see what they have.

They do. Ties are looked at—as in American Football—as virtual losses. However, they do at least give a point. And head-to-head tie-breakers are not the decision maker…it is goal differential. A bit hard to get used to at first, but one does acclimate

Not a great season for Liverpool—currently 9th in the PL. Injuries taking their toll.

Swansea only a few points out of the 3-6 spot for the promotion to the PL tournament, so there’s a lot of footy left to be played.

Certainly. And, at this juncture, really no other choice than to play them.

And while we're on this topic, a repost from the last time we played the Gomers from Mayberry....

You know, sometimes I really feel sorry for North Carolina. Hailing from Dayton I look at the accomplishments of Ohioans and compare them to North Carolinians and find that there's really no comparison.

Ohio is the home to eight US Presidents (Harrison, Grant, Hayes, Garfield, Harrison, McKinley, Taft and Harding)

North Carolina has none, while neighboring Virginia has as many as Ohio.

Ohio is home to the first American to orbit the earth (Glenn) and the first human to walk on the moon (Armstrong).

North Carolina boasts that Vince McMahon was married in New Bern.

Ohio is home to more inventors per square mile than any other spot on earth. Why from Dayton alone you've got Dunn (refrigerator - for keeping beer cold), Kettering (automobile self-starter - for getting the truck full of cold beer to your local store), Gounard (smart fan - so the beer cooler can cycle power as needed), Frei (ice cube tray and ejector - so those with portable coolers can also have cold beer), Mellowes (self-contained refrigerator - so cold beer can exist in your home), Balsey (stepladder - so you can reach the beer on the top shelf), Wrights (airplane - so beer from far away can come to you), Ritty (cash register - so you can actually buy that cold refrigerated beer from far-off lands), and Fraze (pull tab - so you can open and enjoy that cold beer). Dayton inventors also brought you the Wide Strip Steel Manufacturing Process (for making beer cans), Parking Meters (so you can buy beer downtown), Price Tag Affixing Machine (so you know what the beer costs), Multiple-Array Continuous Ink Jet Printer (for beer ads, so you know from where the beer can be bought), Motorized Wheelchair and Walker Attachment for Wheelchairs (so even the handicapped can enjoy a cold beer), Isolated home/farm electric lighting system (so folks in the boonies can see and find the beer they bought), the Black Light (for cool mood-lighting while enjoying a beer surrounded by Velvet Matadors), Controller Pitch Propeller, 100 Octane Aviation Fuel, Airplane Supercharger, Directional Compass with Dual Radio Beam Triangulation, and the Learmatic Electrostatic Gyroscope (so beer-by-air can be swiftly and accurately delivered). Oh, and Space Food, Microfiche, Cellophane Tape, Movie Projectors, Movie Cameras, Movie Film and Movie Theatres, Lighted Scoreboards, Steel Furnaces, Parachutes, Gas Masks, and Ethyl Gasoline. Plus airplane ejection seats, artificial heart and kidney, automobile airbags, bionic organs, blind solo flight, carbonless paper, chrome plating, computerized aircraft loading system, computing scale for butchers and grocers, filter cigarettes, frost proof freezer, fuzz buster, glass photographic negatives, ice-cream cone, instant blood-glucose level testing, lighting system, mood rings, night serial photography, nuclear powered pacemaker, quick process malleable iron, room air conditioner, solenoid, double glass windows, laser weapons, liberty engine and fixed focus headlights. And that's just ONE OHIO CITY! (Source: http://www.daytoncvb.com/helpful-resources/dayton-fast-facts-and-inventors/)

North Carolina has a rich history... hell, they were one of the original 13 colonies for chrissakes. Yet on their state quarter, and on their license plates, they celebrate the accomplishments of two guys from Ohio.

This proud state, who has given America so much -- tobacco, NASCAR, slavery -- instead has to turn to two brothers from Dayton to find something to hang their hat on. But the funny thing is that the reason Kitty Hawk even happened was because Orville and Wilbur needed a place with strong winds, winds that blew consistently in the same direction, and that was roomy and remote enough to allow them to do their experiments without interruption. The Huffman Prairie (near what is now Wright-Patterson AFB) offered them the space they needed but the winds were unpredictable. The Wright B Flyer was still experimental, and their wing-warping technology had yet to be tested under powered flight conditions, so they needed to be able to test their heavier-than-air hypothesis knowing that the aircraft would not need to turn to face into the wind.

Constant winds. Constant direction. That's what Kitty Hawk NC offered.

And it was desolate. Nobody in their right minds would hang out in that sand-dune strewn shit hole in 1903. That's why it was perfect for the Wright Bros - that part of North Carolina not only blew... it also sucked.

North Carolina's quarter and license plates could have any of the Founding Fathers, or Dale Earnhart, or Andy Griffith, or Aunt Jemima, or Philip Morris, or the raping Duke Lacrosse Team on them. But unfortunately, they've turned their back on their heritage and instead use the image of two guys from my home town in Southwest Ohio.

Don't get me wrong. I *like* Charlotte. I just wish city and the state were a little more proud of their own accomplishments rather than co-opting the work of folks not even from there.

You forgot one of the biggest and that is Cheez-its. Also Pete Rose

The Cincinnati Bengals offered one big surprise on the final injury report before the team takes on the Carolina Panthers in Week 9.

That surprise is the impending absence of starting cornerback Mike Hilton, who will miss the game due to a finger injury suffered last week.

Hilton sits next to some big names listed as out for the contest:

  • CB Chidobe Awuzie
  • CB Mike Hilton
  • WR Ja’Marr Chase
  • DT Josh Tupou

Two players also received the questionable tag:

  • OT La’el Collins ..... Note was made that Cordy Glen 2.0 was sidelined with illness.
  • CB Tre Flowers

Saw that poop, too.  Now after back and forth all week it looks like we will se Pajamas Walker.

And as Bengals Wire kindly reminds us...

https://bengalswire.usatoday.com/lists/panthers-vs-bengals-key-players-storylines-joe-mixon-lael-collins/

The Bengals oddly struggle against backups and mid-tier quarterbacks rather consistently. That trend could continue in Week 9 when they face P.J. Walker. He outdueled Tom Brady to beat the Bucs recently and would have led a game-winning drive last week had his wideout not committed an unsportsmanlike penalty that led to a missed extra point. A depleted defense now has to trump the team’s weird history against non-starting-caliber passers or the season could be lost.

Plus...

So the Bengals are down Awuzie, their top corner. Backup Tre Flowers is hurting. Eli Apple will play but missed last week with a nagging issue. Slot starter Mike Hilton is out with a finger injury. And rookies Cam Taylor-Britt and Dax Hill botch got torched badly in spot duty last week. No matter who starts under center, the Panthers will undoubtedly attack a suffering position as the Bengals eye the bye.

Williams: Predictions for Cincinnati Bengals

:pissing:1398199394000-jwilliams.jpg?width=48&heiJason Williams  Cincinnati Enquirer

This looked like an easy win for the Bengals entering the season. Not anymore.

We’ve seen enough of the Bengals to know that there aren’t any for-sure victories on the remaining schedule. The mounting injuries and offensive problems point to the Bengals continuing to be up and down.

Carolina deserves a little credit. The embattled Panthers have been competitive the last two weeks, despite firing coach Matt Rhule and trading star running back Christian McCaffrey last month.

The Panthers have been sparked by two players who originally weren’t expected to play big roles this season — quarterback Pajamas Walker and running back D’Onta Foreman.

Injuries to Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold have forced the Panthers to start Walker, who played in the XFL in 2020. Walker will be backed up by Mayfield, the former Browns QB who has a 6-1 career record vs. the Bengals. Don’t be surprised to see Mayfield if Walker struggles.

Foreman stepped up to rush for 118 yards in a surprising 18-point win over Tampa Bay on Oct. 23. He then rushed for another 118 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s overtime loss at Atlanta. Could Foreman be in for another big game?

The Bengals have struggled against the run without injured defensive tackle D.J. Reader. Cincinnati has allowed an average of 165.5 yards rushing the last four games.

The Bengals can neutralize the Panthers’ rushing attack by getting off to a fast start on offense. Cincinnati is 3-0 when the Bengals have scored first.

But the offense was inept on Monday, the first game without receiver Ja’Marr Chase (hip). The Bengals have no offensive identity without Joe Burrow’s favorite target. There is no quick fix.

Carolina has nothing to lose. The pressure is building on the Bengals, as NFL fans are starting to wonder if last season's Super Bowl run was a fluke. The Bengals are the better team. They should be motivated after the Browns loss. And they should be determined to go into the bye week with a winning record.

Prediction: Bengals win, 24-21

Adam Jones did have Chris Henry's kids with him for the Ruler of the Jungle

thing before the game.  All class.

It was also the first time ever I have seen him smile.

His crowd video prompts and other promos were fantastic,

one inducing cheers and boos quite funny.

Dr Ocho's were, too, and would like to see them kept in.

The three flying Warthogs were pretty cool, too.

Maybe just me but I would love to see them pull a couple F-4 Phantoms out of mothballs

and fly them over.  Talk about LOUD... and a way cool way to honor Viet Nam vets.
