RB Offseason 2023

If they wanted that kind of RB, they could wait until the draft. If Bijan Robinson is still available in the mid 1st round, the Bengals could probably trade Tee Higgins for the draft slot needed. That assumes that they are unable to sign Higgins to an extension. They know what they are willing to pay in guaranteed money and by then they will know if Tee's agent will accept it. If not, then Higgins needs to be flipped for draft assets.

Still doesn’t address the blocking role—which on this team, is a massive need for their RB’s.

Funny how this “devalued position” is suddenly becoming so important.

Robinson has improved as a pass protector. The RB position may be devalued in the league overall, but Robinson is considered a unicorn. He has everything you want. He might be the best RB to enter the league since Adrian Peterson.

I feel like the Bengals need a fresh start at RB fully ...

I would love for them to trade KC for Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Burrow's college RB. Now that Pacheco is their starter they don't need him.

Wont happen imho, Duke Tobin said "I'm not in the business of making other teams better." No chance they give up anything to the team who has become their chief rival now. They wont help the Chiefs in any way.

Can you think of one example of the Bengals reworking an existing team contract? I can't. Other teams do it, Cincinnati does not.

I can not, which is disappointing as it would really help the team if they would at least try to rework deals.

I can't agree with trading Higgins for picks if they can't get a deal done. We are 1 play away from winning a Superbowl, and 1 play away from returning to one. You don't trade away your best players when you are that close.

Giving a 5th rd pick to KC for a RB who would dominate back with Shiesty isn't making KC better, it's making the Bengals better

I think it's more likely they use that 5th on a RB to replace Perine.

I still remember they asked Burrow who the "best athlete" on his national championship LSU team was ... and he said CEH ... not Chase or Jefferson ... there is a ton of untapped potential there and he's still only 23 years old.

And he's fallen to 3rd on the KC depth chart so they will likely deal him, as he's entering the last year of his rookie deal.

Lions signed David Montgomery.  I personally would like James Robinson and a rookie Rb.

I think Robinson is completely washed post-Achilles injury. That is almost impossible for a RB to come back from, especially one who was not an elite athlete even before the injury. Jets traded for him and he couldn't even crack their top 3 after Breece Hall got injured.

Duke Tobin is the guy who took John Ross with the pick before Patrick Mahomes. He's very much in the business of making other teams better.

I'm surprised Perine got as much as he did but good for him. Bengals should sign a vet RB and draft one too as replacements for Mixon and Perine. CEH is worth a late round pick if the team wants to go that direction but he's no bell cow.

New age with Blackburn womem Jaime.

Their thinking on contract extensions would be more in line with present day than MB would do.

New age..new times

0% chance Higgins gets traded this year. His salary is negligible compared to his production and role. Hopefully next year with bengals getting two firsts for him.

Kansas City traded away Tyreek Hill for draft assets that they quickly turned into starters on new rookie contracts. How did that work out for them?

If you aren't going to be able to sign an impact guy to an extension, then his value is limited to the short term. A year or two with a franchise tag and that impact guy is gone for a future compensatory pick. When you are picking at the end of every draft round, it is much harder to hit on an impact player. Your roster can get depleted in a hurry that way, even with Burrow being good enough by himself to keep you in the playoff conversation.

I agree with not trading Bates. He was never going to give you enough draft assets to make a trade worthwhile. Higgins is different.

What they may think. "We went to the super bowl with Mixon-Perine-Williams-Evans. We are returning Mixon-Williams and Evans and we will just replace Perine with a draft pick.

Williams-Bengals 25 64.6 82.3 74.6 81.6 80.9 37 0/0 6-30-5-0; 2-30-0; 16k-356-22.3-0; 7 tackles 5'8 206

If they are not thinking that....here are a bunch of interesting dudes left that I think upgrade the room in different ways still available. A sneaky guy is Ty Johnson from the jets.

Well, that's the point. Unless you are trading damaged goods away (cough cough Lael Collins), a trade should be a win-win for both teams. If Tobin is saying he can't find trades that improve the Bengals, he's not very good at his job.  Teams can get players through 4 methods (waiver wire, draft, free agency, and trade) and not being able to make trades hurts the team. The Price for Hill trade worked out ok. A 6th or 7th rounder for CEH could work out as well.

Choosing Dalton over Mahomes didn't work out so well for the Bengals though it eventually led to Burrow. But it worked out great for KC with 2 MVP awards and 2 Super Bowl wins with Kermit.
