A native of Ontario, Canada, Brown attended St. Stephens Episcopal High School in Florida, where he was a second-team all-state pick in football and anchored a state champion 4x100-meter relay team. He signed with Western Michigan and played in all 13 games in 2018 as a reserve (71-352-5.0 rushing; 10-75-7.5 receiving; 12-227-18.9 kick returns) before transferring to Illinois to play with his twin brother, Sydney. Chase redshirted the 2019 season, playing in four games (3-18-6.0 rushing; 1-15-15.0 kick returns), before starting six of eight appearances in 2020 (104-540-5.2, three TDs rushing; 7-64-9.1 receiving) to earn honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference honors. He was a third-team all-conference pick in 2021, leading Illinois with 1,005 yards and five scores on the ground on 170 carries (5.9 per; also 14-142-10.1 receiving) in 12 games with nine starts. Brown was a major factor in Illinois' strong 2022 campaign, garnering second-team AP All-American and all-conference honors after rushing for 1,643 yards (ranking fourth in the FBS) and 10 scores on 328 carries in 12 starts. He also caught 27 passes for 240 yards (8.9 per) and three scores, ranking fourth in the FBS with 1,883 all-purpose yards, before opting out of the team's bowl game. -- by Chad Reuter
Draft Projection
Rounds 4-5
Overview

Volume ball-carrier with a compact frame and high-end stamina to wear defenses down. Brown is less slasher than he is a between-the-tackles grinder. He needs to prove he can be an effective outside runner to help widen the field. He’s natural and agile as a one-cut runner and has the receiving talent to make plays out of the backfield. He’s a bit of a one-note runner but could compete for a three-down backup role with a limited ceiling.

Strengths
  • Hit 100-plus yards rushing in nine consecutive games in 2022.
  • Workhorse who averaged 27.3 carries per game in 2022.
  • Sudden plant and cuts downhill.
  • Adept at following and steering lead blocks into linebackers.
  • Sets up his open-field moves to elude tacklers.
  • Fluid routes coming out of the backfield.
  • Good hand-eye coordination making catches on the move.

Why was he drafted so low?

because RB is a very devalued position and there are a ton of good ones in this draft. It's why the bengals didn't reach earlier and why so many on here were on me for pushing for Gibbs in round 1 lol...
