Prayers for the victims.

The kids name is Thomas Matthew Crooks. Still a lot of unknowns. I think this is a good breakdown from what we know and don't know.

I would not shed a tear if he (or Biden for that matter) choked on a Big Mac but all this has done is make things 100 times worse.  Thank goodness this kook missed but I still expect reprisals. Every dipshit militia & basement dwelling incel will now feel justified in doing any stupid ass thing they want.

I suspect security for both is about to be doubled. As I think the chances of some kook wanting revenge is probably pretty high. But I doubt with added security anything happens. I also suspect both candidates suspend any outdoor events.

Also sounds like the gun was purchased legally by his father. Don't know what PA state laws are as far as prosecuting parents for gun related crimes their kids commit with guns they own as that is a fairly new thing, but we'll see. My understanding is an "AR style" was used.

Sounds like the kid was bullied and maybe lost it. Not sure there are any real political motives here, but that seems difficult to determine seeing as he didn't have much of a social media presence.

Wonder how Trump handles this since one of his talking points has been defending 2A.

Eh, it is when it suits him, like the rest of his platform.

"Take the guns first. Go through due process second, I like taking the guns early." - also Trump

FWIW in the MSM  "AR-15 style" means any semiautomatic rifle that doesn't have a wooden stock.  (Any semiautomatic rifle with a wooden stock is an "AK-47" & any bolt-action rifle with a scope is a "sniper rifle".)

It would certainly be interesting if Trump's ear getting knicked by maybe a bullet or maybe shrapnel or a bit of glass or maybe the Secret Service's cuff links caused a reversal in Republican gun policy when elementary schools full of children were only worth "thoughts & prayers". My suspicion is this changes nothing.

Never mind gun control, clearly the solution is to round up anyone that doesn't support Dear Leader.

As far as reprisals, I don't mean someone taking a shot at Biden, though that is also more likely now. I mean someone shooting up their nearest Biden campaign office, women's clinic, gay bar, Mexican restaurant, synagogue, public library, homeless center, or falafel cart. They have a long list of unprotected perceived enemies to choose from, and will likely do so more frequently than before.

Seems to be the move from everyone right now. You didn't want to be downwind of Diaper Donnie before but now it's legit dangerous.

That aside, can we pull a switcheroo, stick a Biden mask on him and then reveal it's Stewart after the DNC rubber stamp nomination?

He has a much better chance of beating Cheeto Benito.

No :ninja:

Take a shot at one person and the media goes wild. Murder a pile of Palestinians and the media just shrugs.

Something quite fucked up about that. I suspect it is partly because the people who run the country are used to doling out the violence instead of being on the receiving end of it.

So, let me ask you all this. Let's say that the shooter was successful and Trump was assassinated.

Who do you think the nominee would have been?

Who would you like to have seen be the nominee?

For the Democrats/Independents on the board, is there any Republican nominee that you could have lived with or voted for?

I will say this. From the snippets I've seen of the convention, it would have been a LOT different and chaotic if Trump had been assassinated than the constant Trump ass kissing I've seen this week. I swear, Trump could read the phone book and Laura Ingraham would gush that it was the best reading of the phone book she's ever heard.

IDK that it would have mattered, honestly.

MAGA would've used it as an excuse to lash out at all of their perceived enemies. That list is basically everyone but them (because cult.)

As it is they're still positively frothing at the mouth anticipating violence. These are people anxious to see someone else punished for all their problems. Trump's job is to convince them that it's someone - anyone - other than the oligarchs funding his campaign, who are of course the ones actually responsible for such horrendous crimes as "hamberder cost more!" and "7mpg lifted pickup cost too much to drive!"

Without the promise of Daddy Trump to fix all their problems they would lash out at the world around them, in a more serious & widespread manner than which their spouses, children, and/or pets are already well acquainted. When the dust settled Biden (or whoever) will have seen the US through our 2nd Civil War and win the (possibly delayed) election in a landslide.

Never mind that Dear Leader can not, will not, and for the most part has no real intention to fix much of anything for them. The important part is he will make some Other groups of people suffer more, which is satisfying enough for the bigots that worship him. Without him they're simply a temper tantrum. Again, cults typically do not do well with leadership changes - to put it mildly.

I'd think they would fall back to Haley?

I'm not sure I can support any Republican for a very long time. They have ginned up their base so much that anyone not running under the guise of "blame immigrants and poor people for your problems" wont win, also don't say the quiet part out loud but blacks too. That's a real dealbreaker for me.

I don’t know that it would automatically have fallen to Haley. A lot of the old guard Republicans skipped the convention, because they felt there wasn’t room for them among the MAGA faction.

True.

All I’ve hearing this week is how the convention unified the  Republicans. The only reason it’s coming across as unified is because the old guard stayed away. I’m not buying it.

Oh lord here we go...

No no, let him cook.

Did Trump cut himself like in his pro wrestling days or which theory are we going with?

Crazy how someone tried to blow his head clean off and most of America's like "meh."
