…but just know that this is THE BEST place to stay up-to-date on all things Bengals.  image.png.ec3f8df70c0aa768b26a400638f5ba39.png

Don't take anything too seriously or let anyone get under your skin.

And the ninja emoji :ninja: means tongue in cheek or someone is just kidding around.

Thanks for the tips. This board showed up on my radar several times while researching a project of mine that I started 2 years ago, documenting every QB who has ever put on a Bengals jersey since their inception. (incl. rookie camps, mid-season tryouts, pre-season and practice squads) I was impressed every time I came here.

I'm also sorry for the esteemed members who've passed away over the life of this forum.

But getting back to the Super Bowls, I think I lean towards XVI because we were behind the whole way, and mostly by more than 1 score. And we should've led that game, wire-to-wire. I don't have quite the bitter taste for XXIII because we were getting badly outgained, but were miraculously still in it thanks to some bend-but-don't break defense and some awful FG misses by Cofer. And as great as McPherson's FG to beat KC in OT was, and as great as Hubbard's "Fumble in the Jungle" was, SB XXIII featured my favorite Bengals moment ever - Stanford Jennings' KO return that gave us a 13-6 lead. In the Super Bowl. Vs Joe Montana. I absolutely lost my mind during that return. My poor neighbors must've thought someone was being murdered.

So at least in XXIII (and LVI), I had something to cheer about. SB XVI was just a mix of misery and forlorn hope that faded into desperation and frustrating disappointment. That loss STILL bothers me. The only difference is, then, I was sad for myself. Now, I'm more disappointed for the players. I wish all of those guys could've had that 1 moment, lifting that Lombardi. And Paul Brown would've been there to enjoy it too.

Vividly remember Jennings TD.

I like you jumped out of my chair..

I'm not sure I have a favorite moment.

Probably in the Burrow era..

You must share some of your documents on here if possible.

I would be more than happy to. Actually, it would probably be a good idea for 2 reasons:

1. Some on here may very easily be able to recognize/fill-in gaps in my season-by-season reasearch.

2. If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, all of the info I've gathered goes away. On here, it would be available (for whatever it's worth) for any Bengals fan to find and likely improve upon.

I can even include the photos I have of each player in their Bengals jersey (like Rick Norton, for instance, who was on the 1970 pre-season roster for 4 days; or Boomer Esiason in his #17 jersey) if that's allowed.

I also spent a couple of years putting together as comprehensive a case for Ken Anderson's Hall of Fame bona fides as possible. I'm not sure to what extent the Bengals' brass is going in order to promote Kenny, but I really wish they'd put on a full-court press with the HOF voters. I'd love to get feedback on each of ~50 different examples to really refine each argument. I have no idea how to make sure the Bengals organization has all of the ammunition they need to open HOF voters' eyes.

Maybe I'll start 2 different threads, one for the QB history info and one for Ken Anderson's HOF case. I don't want to hijack this SB thread any more than I already have.

This would be interesting. All the way back to East Islip NY HS and Maryland, I can find nothing of a #17 jersey. He has always worn #7.

This was pic was taken during a December practice. Off the top of my head, I'm not sure which season...

If that's not crazy enough, here's how the Bengals 1984 Media Guide listed Boomer...

Did a quick image check, and it appears the photo was from 1997–which I have always remembered as the “Norman Fun Ride” (those last 6 games). The face mask fits what he wore that season.

Still cannot find any other photo of him wearing #17, so you have a valued pic.

FWIW: #17 was worn in 1997 by WR Gunnard Twyner—who was only on the roster until the end of September. Could be this was a spare practice jersey in December?

The Bengals Media guides were abysmal back then. I used to get one each season, and they were often way off on accuracy. Another great find though!

Do you have the infamous strike team QB?

I don't think he ever threw a pass.but could be wrong.

This is the only known photo I can find of the legendary Adrian Breen

2020 End Game: Football/Community Banking | The Bank of Missouri

Did find this old video of the game itself (Bengals v Chargers 10-10-87). It said there were 26K people there (I was one of them), but I seriously rebuke that estimate:

Mr. Breen does appear in this clip a few times.

1-2  9yds  1 TD

I was there, too.  Remember it was kind of cool walking around the outside of the stadium and

chatting with the striking stars who were encouraging you not to go to the game.

If you mean for the 3 replacement games in 1987, yes, I've got all 3...Dave Walter (#11), Ben Bennett (#16) and Adrian Breen (#18). I'll post them in the 1987 entry for the QB History thread that I will create.
