Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase hold-in is one to monitor according to Adam Schefter

^ 😡 Great. Leave it to this front office to create bad blood with the 2nd best player on the team, who should be a hall of fame cornerstone of the franchise for the next decade.  Pathetic and idiotic on their part.

Unless Scrooge McCheap gets with the new reality of today's NFL contracts (larger non-deferred guarantees), this team is going to devolve into just Burrow and rotating mid Rd draft picks waiting to leave for a real second contract.

Bengals offered 4 years 140M and 90 guaranteed.

Bengals have been trying to negotiate since end of last season

This is not on the Bengals.

No, they offered 4 years, 140M, 30 guaranteed right now and 60 deferred until 2027 if he doesn't have any big injuries by then (which defeats the purpose of the guarantee, as it serves as a protection to the player against injury).

There is no way they could actually expect Ja'Marr's agent to accept that deal and look like a total clown to other agents, as he would basically be giving away 60 to 80 million in guarantees (using Justin's 110 figure) and putting those dollars at risk, by shifting all the risk from the team to the player.

The article says that Ja'Marr has had to take out his own 50 million dollar insurance policy this season, which is an indictment of this front office and proof that they dropped the ball on this one. Usually they do things right and I have applauded them many times over the years. But they shit their pants here and its embarrassing.

So you think that they won't get a deal done in the off season?

Hard to say at this point. He also might not be so enthused about his future with them now either, if he feels like they've 'done him dirty'.

What I do know is he will likely only get more expensive. So any guarantee he would have accepted now, will be even bigger (and presumably harder for them to swallow) in the future.

They have him under contract for 2 years. He has to give up something.

He will be here long term.

To reinforce his word and strengthen his position, Chase also has taken out a $50 million insurance policy on himself for this season to safeguard against injury and any potential lost earnings. As one source said about Chase, with the insurance policy in place, “He’s good.”

Translation: Chase is going to keep playing and get back to seeking that major contract extension after the season.

I agree. The deferred guarantee concept won’t fly with players and agents - not just Chase but future deals.

The team has done a lot of good things in the last few years but this is a step backwards and smells of Mike Brown thinking and not the 3 Blackburn gals.

This is what drove Palmer to leave. I've not been convinced that the front office has changed in this regard. I'm still on the once the team secures it QB for the long term they revert back to being tight with the cap. Until I see otherwise I'm not sure I believe the Bengals are serious about maximizing their window with top teir QBs and we might indeed be waiting for the next good qb on a rookie deal before we get back to the Super Bowl
