This is such a fundamental misunderstanding of everything mentioned that I don't even know where to start. It's like spotting someone on the side of the road drinking paint from the can. What can you do? 2 Quote

Can you rewrite this post, I'm not following what you're trying to say here. That first sentence especially.... if products initially what? Quote
Jamie_B Posted Thursday at 12:23 AM Author Report Posted Thursday at 12:23 AM Mexican President has said for every tariff put on them they will respond in kind. He's going to start a trade war and really hurt this economy. https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/26/world/video/mexican-president-responds-trump-tariffs-digvid Quote

T-Dub Posted Thursday at 07:05 PM Report Posted Thursday at 07:05 PM Hope everyone can budget for fresh vegetables in the winter. Where do these idiots think bananas come from? Hint: not Ohio. Maybe the closest they get is telling the drive thru worker to hold the lettuce? Better make any electronics purchase we've been putting off because the cost of that upgrade is about to go vertical. And they want to shitcan the SEC, FCC, Federal Reserve.. May as well shutter the DoE (energy? Education? Fuck it, why not both?) since obviously these homeschool, bible school, tide pod Ipad kids don't need it. What's a few oil spills if I can save 10 dollars commuting in my 3mpg dualie truck. All those parts are made in America right? Besides, we all know tariffs are paid by the targeted country's government, right? The economy is saved! Great job everyone!! That starving migrant caravan (that was definitely going to swarm the border any day now) will turn right around once they see us paying $5 for an avocado. Brilliant. 1 Quote
Shebengal Posted Friday at 04:19 PM Report Posted Friday at 04:19 PM And while you’re at it, if you were planning on buying a newly built house, better do that now before the price of wood goes up. I wonder how many MAGATs drink Modelo, Corona, Dos Equis, Labatt Blue, or Molson. Going to cost more for those, too. 1 1 Quote

I wonder how many MAGATs drink Modelo, Corona, Dos Equis, Labatt Blue, or Molson. Going to cost more for those, too. It's everything. Beer cans - the world's largest supplier of aluminum? China. Most people wear shoes. If I need a new can opener I can get one for pocket change at any discount store and it definitely won't be American-made. The "supply chain issues" that were an excuse to price gouge are going to get very real. The US (if not global) economy is wholly dependent on exploiting foreign labor. We've caused untold suffering & bloodshed all around the world perpetuating the gross inequalities that make it possible. We spent half the 20th century destabilizing the Latin American & Caribbean countries most of these refugees are fleeing. I think the oligarchs pulling Trump's strings know this, which is why I expect in the end he'll roll out something much more limited. It'll be equally ineffectual as far as his immigration policy, the unintended consequences will be more contained, and his faithful will still applaud it as a yuge victory regardless. 1 Quote

You have accurately described one important aspect of Trump's protectionism. If this is all there is to it, it's doomed to failure. Quote
