^ If CTB would take a reasonable extension now I would consider it (3 yr, 33 mill, 11 per). It is sort of a gamble by both sides. He gets financial security and the Bengals get a better deal than if he hits the open market after a great year where he will cost 15-20 per year.

I get it but he’s gotta show me this year. Last year might have been an anomaly, not sure, but he sucked rocks for awhile and looked out of sorts - and I’ve gotta see that he’s back to where he was trending. Yeah, he played better at the end of last year but they were facing isht QBs.

Sounds like he had a nice camp and he’s saying the right things, which is a good start. But it’s Missouri for me this year.

He's 32 now. But will turn 34 a few months after his current 2 year contract runs out.

I get that, but once there's visual confirmation the price will double.

The Eagles currently have the strongest roster in the NFL because Howie keeps taking these gambles and extending guys early on the bet that they will get better and then be cheaper than they should be. 

Then again the Bengals smartly did that with Trey and he just held out all of camp because his pay was set to be too low. So they might feel snake bitten by bargain betting. 🤔 

It's a solid move. I wonder if the team would have done it if Karras hadn't taken the paycut to 5 mil?

Wonder if it's just a straight $5mill base salary or if they gave him something now as a signing bonus and a lower base salary next season.

The only difference would be the dead cap space if they have to cut him for some reason (which I don't expect at all - so it's probably a moot point).

It's one thing to gamble on guys who look good early, it's another to gamble on a player that could be a head case. They have the money if he gets his shit together. If he doesn't, let him be someone else's problem.
