Something is seriously wrong with interpersonal relations amongst younger people. One beef between parties, and it’s off to the cops/social media to air all real or supposed dirty laundry. All in the name of victimhood.

Burton is a punk. He’s a wealthy punk. He attracts birds of a feather. Punks fight…all hell breaks loose on social media. Drama squared.

I almost pity the NFL for having to have whole units of “counseling” and “help” to deal with these sophomoric yo-yos and their lowlife hanger ons.

Are we not entertained? Geez.

It wasn't Marvin doing the Redeeming. Ol' Musty wouldn't let him get rid of the problem guys. Treating the franchise like a group home is all him.

If I recall correctly, Marvin wanted to cut Chris Henry loose and Mike Brown said no.

Whether this report is true or not, how 'bout we establish a new team rule:

If there's ever footage of a college player clocking a woman, we take that scumbag off our draft board.

Is that too much to ask?

That was a totally different situation and not DV adjacent. It was some random fan storming the field and could have easily been a guy as a gal.

Burton's girlfriend may not be pressing charges yet due to a settlement offer from his lawyer. This is the sort of thing that should be worth $100K or more to him to go away.

This is freaking ridiculous.  Get rid of the GD bum.   Put him on a raft and push it out into the river.  We got a Super Bowl to win and this guy is too busy fighting teeny boppers.  What a disgrace to everyone on the team and in the organization that actually gives a crap.

oh dont get me wrong, Brurton is a worthless dumbass fuckup. he will obviously get a shot to come back after an offseason. so not much to think about.

but my son has an ex GF who claimed he was abusive, manipulative, insecure, and posted to the whole school and friends on social media about "finally out of this toxic abusive relationship" then proceeded to post to hood twitter in these posts where chicks post the phone number of an ex who screwed them over and they are then harrassed, for weeks by random people across the country. Had to change his phone number, i filed online police reports of every thing she had done with proof in case something ever came of it. Mind you this is a girl who had created fake snapchat accounts as a DUDE to have conversations with herself, take screenshots of the fake dude complimenting her or saying something innappropriate to post like he was being hit on. took fake pics from the internet of alcohol and send ti him claiming she was at a party getting drunk with dudes to try to make him jealous. after she posted that shit on social media he had girls at the school saying he was creepy and disgusting, had teachers fuck with him assuming he had done something. I hired a lawyer to clear that shit from the internet becasue he was getting recruited for sports in college. I had to threaten sueing her parents to get them to address it, they were tired of her shit.

all this for some high school senior year relationship of some chick and my kid in southern colorado redneck highschool.

so im not defending the team or Burton, but if allllll that shit went down and she didnt press any charges.... and the story is odd as fuck. im not with it.. ive seen it with my eyes.

if someone is doing all that to you like its said, and you cal land are talking about him yelling in the car earlier and shit from a month ago, thats odd, thats thinking of shit to tell someone. if thats going down that call is like "hey i need police, my boyfield is crazy and choked me and broke into my house, i need a restraining order"  how many of those calls have yall heard on tv and online? a billion? they dont go like this.

then she presses no charges? lol, ok.

Burton seems clearly like a dumbass and a dirtbag, but i dont think that series of events went down like that, if at all.

Maybe im wrong.. but thats a really weird call, and for those things to be true to not press charges or do ANYTHING about it after the call. suspicious as fuck.

I wont go down the pacman route again, i have a few times, but he had the lady at the reds game punching him and he got arrested casue she said he just attacked her ot of no where, he had the kid posting him yelling at him after hitting his Bentley, id be yelling too, no way that teenager in Batavia ohio has the coverage to cover the repairs to a fucking Bentley, so that was gonna gost him 50k or so after dudes insurance paid up, getting arrest at the westin for going to the wrong room, was he drunk and knocking on someone elses door? yes, would you or I have been ARRESTED when security came if we did that? no.

remember the teenagers who said they were walking down the road and Odell Thurman and Chris Henry stopped and beat them up? they filed a whole police report, it was on the news, never happened.

Remember when that shitty lineman got tased by the cincy police because they told him to move his car and he went to move it then they told him he was under arrest, he got 50 million settlement. (Mathias Askew was the palyer)

Chinedume Ndukwe was part of an extortion case a woman tried to sue him for sexual assault which was false and they proved it and she was charged with extortion.

remember when pacman was arresteda t the airport and all charges got dropped once again?

Police repremeanded for handling of Joe Mixon case where lady said he showed a gun to her some random night.

how many cases of people being either scammers or liars or racists does it take before the first thought isnt "well there is a good chance this isnt all true"

If it was some out-of-the-blue random thing, like Ndukwe for example, I'd be more skeptical.  When it fits a pattern, like Pac, I think it's safe to say he's part of the problem.

Mike doesn't really do anything with the team anymore, this would be a Katie thing, but yes.

The common thread being a love of scratch and dent manager's specials.

"Ooooh, look, this Vontaze Burfict guy is really good and we can pick him up almost 50% off!"

"Oh, did that 1st round talent just get shot and drop into the 4th round? Score!"

"Sure, he may have or may not have raped some girls (please don't tell me if he did) but his pressure rate is great and he's family sized for 10% off!"

"I mean, who hasn't clocked a b*tch in a pizza joint?? He's a rare combo of size and speed. You don't get a guy like him in this round if he's a choir boy."

"Psssh, plenty of great linebackers have been alcoholics. Gonna make that second contract that much more affordable. Who's winning?? I am!"

"OMG U guyz! We went to Canada for vacay, and they have players up there so cheap. It reminds me of that time we went to Germany and got this 6'8" guy for like 2 Deutschmarks... He was so sweet. Look at this little miniature one. I'm going to put him on my kickoff team."

I'm guessing he got evicted because the neighbors complained about the unsanctioned boxing match being a bit loud.

He's fortunate, I guess. Here in VA, if the cops suspect DV, the State presses charges. There's no "Oops, I was just bluffing" or "I love you baby sign this NDA" about it.

Have to think this goes hand in hand with investing so little in scouting.

The two go hand in hand. IMHO, They don't know enough to understand they aren't getting a deal just because Mel Kiper said he should have gone in the first round.

It's like getting a "good deal" on a prostitute. "Can you believe that other girl charges 6 grand a night? $50 and a bottle of lice shampoo baby! Who's winning? I am!!!"

The icing on that cake is that when they do manage to get more than they paid for, their reluctance to sign long term deals means that we get one year of a guys reclamation project at a discount... See Chido, or any TE in the past 5 years... And then we either have to actually pay them or watch them walk.

I don't even think that they do amazingly bad at the draft, but that 10% swing in hits and misses is what constitutes long term success. Every "smart bargain" we got drafting a right tackle with titties starts to eat at those margins. Every first round talent that "fell" into the third because his Wonderlic is a decimal and his character is weaker than a CTB tackle eats away at those thin margins. Not talking to coaches about people's character, what happened with the whole "rape" thing... We have to be really good - almost psychic - just to be average.

Katie and Mikey love the cheap labor... They cherish every compensatory pick. Scouts are dirt frikkin' cheap in the modern NFL too. Penny wise and pound foolish. They should put that on the back of the jersey for training camp next year.

But does spending alone equal productivity (see federal government)? Pushing the money pile from one place to another, is the definition of dog-chases-tail.

Somewhere along the line there has to be wisdom and/or actual verifiable metrics.

But, then again, simple luck does come into play—along with the wisdom.

Man, did they whiff on scouting this guy. Bet you 100 Kč we take a WR in round 1 (100 Kč is about $5 and I’m kinda :ninja: about R1 WR. Kinda… 😬).

Bengals' Jermaine Burton allegedly involved in domestic dispute

CINCINNATI -- Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton was allegedly involved in a domestic dispute where he choked and hit his ex-girlfriend, according to an incident report filed by police and obtained by ESPN on Thursday.

On Dec. 30, Burton allegedly broke into the home of a woman he was seeing hours after the two had been out drinking at 1 a.m., according to an emergency call made to Cincinnati police at 8 a.m.

The woman, 19, told police that Burton choked her in the hallway of her apartment complex. She also said Burton broke into her residence, grabbed a knife from her dishwasher, held it to his own neck and threatened to kill himself. She told police that Burton then broke her phone and left.

According to the police incident report, obtained by ESPN through an open records request, the woman declined to file charges. Burton's agent did not respond to an attempt by ESPN for a comment.

In the call to the police dispatcher, the woman told officers that it was not an isolated incident.

"This is the second time he's broken my phone in the past month," the woman said. "He broke my phone and hit me and he left."

Burton, a rookie, did not travel with the team to its regular-season finale against the Pittsburgh Stealers because of a coach's decision, which coach Zac Taylor confirmed after the game.

"We will continue to evaluate as we gather additional details and will have no further comment at this time," the Bengals said in a statement given to ESPN on Thursday.

The woman told police they had been seeing each other since September. However, she alleged Burton had been "pretty abusive." In her call to police, she said the incident on Dec. 30 resulted from her refusing to "show him an old Tweet."

She also told police that on Dec. 21, the two were drinking alcohol at his residence when Burton allegedly pushed her down a set of stairs. The police were not notified at the time but filed a separate incident in which Burton threatened self-harm.

Burton was a third-round pick out of Alabama. Even before the Bengals drafted him, there were questions about Burton's conduct. In 2022, a video posted to social media showed Burton striking a woman in the head as she stormed the field following Tennessee's win over Alabama.

"It was something that we talked about with him just to hear what he had to say about it," Taylor said last April. "We did our research on all these guys that we've talked to and made sure we're aware of every incident they've been a part of."

The latest incident comes after Burton's previous landlord filed an eviction notice and civil lawsuit against him on Dec. 23 for lack of payment. The lawsuit also seeks $10,000 for damages "beyond ordinary wear and tear."

Burton is coming off a disappointing rookie season. Despite being featured in the gameplan in the days leading up to the game, he was a healthy scratch for a Week 9 win over the Las Vegas Raiders after missing a walkthrough before the game, sources told ESPN at the time.

While he eventually became the team's starting kick returner, his offensive snaps dwindled. In 14 games this season, he finished with four catches for 107 receiving yards.

ESPN investigative reporter Paula Lavigne contributed to this report.

Can’t say I’m at all surprised at this. There were red flags from his college days… even Saban was kinda lukewarm with his assessment, and that is a guy that has staunchly defended talented knuckleheads in the past. What’s more, Burton was under-drafted because of character concerns, TJH has tried to mentor him, teammates have reportedly tried to help him… and he’s still messing up. It’s sad, he obviously has issues. But you’d think that perhaps he’d be humbled by some of what’s happened, and has taken to heart what TJ has counseled him about. Nope.

While there’s no doubt he’s talented, as a rookie, he had several opportunities to become a reliable piece of the puzzle - and he has failed each time… whether it’s on the field (not knowing the playbook/missed assignments, crap route running) or off of it. You gotta wonder if it’s worth it. I suspect that they will give him the off-season to show improvement in work ethic and dedication, but he’s definitely a huge question mark and he isn’t someone from whom I’d bank on a strong contribution in 2025 and beyond.

He’s kinda like the Bengals’ version of George Pickens, less the productivity. Gotta believe the leash is really short on this guy.

I wish the Bengals (and the entire NFL for that matter) actually had a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to player violence.

If you assault a woman (or child), we don't get you help, we get you outta here. They shouldn't give pummel-a-woman mulligans. One strike and you're out.

Their clearly-stated policy should also be, if you beat up your wife/girlfriend/whomever, we will not cover for you. We will not shield you. We won't have "no comment." We will tell the media everything that we know. And then we will assist the fullest extent possible with your prosecution.

One of the easiest things on this earth to do is to not beat a woman. You can have an I.Q. of 63 and go your whole life without ever choking, punching or rag-dolling a woman. There's zero excuse. There should be zero tolerance.

Assuming the woman is telling the truth, he should go.  They probably should hear Burton's side of the story first.  These guys are targets for a certain kind of woman.  If what she says is most likely true, they can't bring him back.

Bullcrap. This is how coaches tell other people you're a damn knucklehead. Aka, "I think emotional maturity is the best way to say it."

“I really, really like this guy, (but) the No. 1 thing that he needs to do — and I think emotional maturity is the best way to say it — is do the right things all the time."

Pfft... I hope he can turn his life around. IDGAF about his career. If he can't stop beating up women, IDGAF if he can be a 1,000 yard receiver.

Last time I saw a guy with this many red flags he was marking out the underground utility lines at my house.
