Get Tee signed asap and cut this guy, we don't have time for this nonsense.

That'd be great but I fear some other team will be willing to overlook his injury history & offer a bigger % guaranteed.

And never draft a guy with character issues again!

Sad story… no one knows everything about his background, but he’s an adult (age-wise) who clearly won’t, or can’t take responsibility.

Either way, he’s blowing his opportunity and guys like that without “life skills” are looking at a bad ending and lots of “what could have been” talk. Hope for his sake he gets his life in order… whether it’s in football or elsewhere. He needs help… or more accurately (since at least TJ and likely others reportedly have tried to assist him), he needs to embrace others’ help.

Update...  https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2025/02/11/cincinnati-bengals-wide-receiver-jermaine-burton-faces-second-eviction/ (edited my me)

"The complaint does not list any overdue rent or mention monetary damages sought by the landlord. Court records state the grounds for Burton's eviction were "lease violations."

Burton has been summoned to a March 6 court hearing to address the latest eviction.

The first eviction proceeding against Burton began in December when Radius Acquistion LLC filed paperwork seeking over $2,500 in rent and $10,000 to compensate for "injury to the premises above and beyond ordinary wear and tear," the documents state.

A Jan. 24 court filing shows that while Radius Acquisition's claim of Burton living in the apartment unlawfully has been dismissed, the landlord still seeks money from Burton.

The amounts in dispute are pretty small for an NFL player. Maybe he has a gambling problem if he's broke already? He moved around the country during high school which suggests his mom or parents aren't poor and ignorant. He would probably benefit from a legal guardianship though those have a bad image since Britney Spears' dad owned her.

The team fucked up.  They should have definitely taken Burton to the Week 19 game…

…and made it a one-way trip.  Then he would be a problem for Pittsburgh landlords.

Wherever he lived, it’s apparent that the place was trashed. Asking for $10k to “compensate for injury to premises”.

Not trying to make excuses for the guy but...  That amount is likely the extreme high-end of any repair work costs just to cover over runs or anything unexpected.  It's not tough to run up that amount in damages on a house if the owner is using a contractor for the pricing.  Maybe the disagreement is on the actual cost of the repairs.  We certainly don't know.

Could've been a furnished apartment with appliances

His entire rookie contract is guaranteed even if you cut him.

He's acting like he knows that.

That's only for first rounders. If Burton were cut and not signed by anyone, he wouldn't make any more money.

Could have been a lot of things....   Turns out it was over a "guest" bringing dogs to the place while he wasn't there.

Quote

“Burton had a family member staying at his house when he was out of town. The family member brought their dogs with them, which didn’t comply with the rental agreement. The landlord found out and sent the 23-year-old an eviction notice a few days later.”

Untrained & unattended dog could do $10k in damage in a day or two & still shit out the shreds of your signed, vintage 1985 Air I wings as an encore.
