March 11, 20251 yr comment_1789369 I see Burks as an ADG replacement - veteran, good ST player, spot starter. Thought ADG struggled overall last year, so I see this as an upgrade, if you look at Burks’ playoff performance, especially. Wouldn’t shock me if he’s in the mix for a starting spot but at worst, he is a quality depth piece. And I’m an Ossai fan… he’s struggled with injuries but he came on late last year. Motor runs hot, and he can give you some pass rush snaps inside. Plus, he’s a former LB so he’s got some versatility to his game. Not a game changer but he's a useful player with some incentive to ball out, since he is betting on himself on a 1-year deal. Report
March 11, 20251 yr comment_1789376 No big splashes but not inactive either. Would like to see some Guard moves today... Zeitler back home would be huge (Becton and to a lesser extent Will Hernandez would work) Report

I think that’s accurate in a few spots…especially run D with Slaton signing, and 3rd or 4th LB with Burks, and backup RB ((still fine ziti Herbert as #3 RB if it happens). I expect Tre is gonna stay and the 2 WRs sign at some point. I don’t expect they do anything more at TE. One starting-level G, OL depth, a penetrating DT, overall DL depth, starting LB (hopefully Pratt gets cut), and S still on the list. Report

I think Pratt and or Stone will be a draft day decision, I don't think either guy gets cut unless we get someone in the 1st and 2nd to replace them. Pratt had his best years under Golden, I think he can get back to that, and if Golden wants to run a 4-3, cutting one of your LBs without a solid replacement is a bad idea. Right now we dont even have good depth. I tend to think Pratt stays and plays out his final year here. Report

Better odds of getting a ring there than here. 2 hours ago, Le Tigre said: Yesterday was an OK day. It was basically just backfilling holes, and that was partially done. But we needed upgrades in several places and other than Slaton being a better run defender than Rankins haven't upgraded anything yet. 2 hours ago, Jamie_B said: Yesterday was all about raising the floor. Perine and Burks don't move the needle and Slaton is a 2 down player. 2 hours ago, texbengal said: I think that’s accurate in a few spots…especially run D with Slaton signing, and 3rd or 4th LB with Burks, and backup RB ((still fine ziti Herbert as #3 RB if it happens). I don't expect them to sign another DT or S in free agency (unless it's an inexpensive backup type). We need 2 guards today, and probably a DE and LB. Something like Teven Jenkins, Brandon Scherff, Dante Fowler, and Kyzir White would be a good day. Report

Just for counterpoint - We lost an LOLB who got 2 years at $11M and got a guy who took 2 years $5M. Barely over the vet minimum. We got back Joe Ossai - a guy who over 4 years couldn't beat out Sam Hubbard on one leg. My god, can you imagine trading Hendrickson and starting Murphy and Ossai? Otherwise... He's kind of the same player in the same spot as Myles Murphy. For $7M. Yikes. A good run defender... Ok. BJ Hill. I don't love it, don't hate it. We were better when he wasn't injured last year. But 3 sacks and being "acceptable" isn't confidence inspiring. These moves seem more like making sure the floor doesn't fall out. Resigning Ossai is insurance. Slaton replaces Rankins. While Rankins didn't play for us last year, he was the better of the two players when signed. Hill is back. We replaced AGD with a guy half his price. Report
March 11, 20251 yr comment_1789415 It's sometimes said that free agency is for patching holes and the draft is for adding talent. We still have some obvious holes to patch, especially if we plan to replace Pratt and maybe Stone and Volson. Report
