something I've been thinking about lately, on the topic of long-term damage.. We no longer have a credible central government. It's an easy thing to say, maybe even agree with, but the more it sinks in the more I realize the extent of what that really means for the future. All 3 branches of government openly, brazenly corrupt. All our "watchdog agencies" gutted. The food we eat, the air we breathe, the places we work, our schools, hospitals.. Every system put in place to keep us from eating sawdust bread or the local factory from dumping lead paint down the drain, 200 years of progress - gone. Not only will cancer rates likely start climbing again for the first time in 30+ years, the advances in diagnosing and treating cancer that have made that decline possible are losing funding, and that's just one example. We're rejecting science and medicine as a whole. We're rejecting education as a value.

Add to that that nothing coming from any remaining agency is trustworthy. The FBI, DOJ, FDA, any health service, everything they say or do may be at the whim of some perpetually offended toddler. Actual threats ignored because someone made a joke about him on Twitter. That's the "current state" of our national security. We're blowing up random fishing boats off Venezuela because our President is a child sex trafficker desperate for distractions. Wait until it's revealed what ICE has been doing with all the women and children they're kidnapping. We are the "shithole country".

& that's the end game. When the central government no longer provides useful services, or protects us from harm, or invests in our futures.. Why even have one? So a handful of billionaires can loot us all freely? No more taxes? Think I've said this before but there's sometimes this misconception that our government or Constitution "gives us" rights. Not so; we allow governance so long as those rights are respected. They're not anyone's to give or take away.

Really it's a question of how much longer people are willing to continue to cede that authority to random masked goons kidnapping people off the streets. I hope it's not very long.

Oh I think we're at that point, people are starting to struggle behind this even if they're not worried about being snatched off the street or a goon squad kicking in their doors (yet).

It's the extent of the damage and whether some of it can be repaired at all.  Venezuela could be our Poland.  That's where we're at now.

Maybe flipping Congress in the midterms would stop the bleeding, if we have those, if there aren't ICE patrols at the polls..  I don't know that we can ever dig out the rot that created this situation, though.  We're a country founded on the premise of white supremacy and even after a bloody civil war we can't let it die.  The only other option is for the nation to die with it, and that's what we're doing now.

This is an educated person with a medical degree trying to make sense out of the bizarre theories of some random dipshit. This shouldn't be a debate, why are we presenting provable scientific fact as a matter of opinion? That's where we're at now, and we're all getting dumber for it.
