Not cutting Sample with All gone for the year

Sample was essentially our Fullback. All is not that guy. You need Geisecki (or comparable) that much more with the loss of All.

He's a vestigial TE on a team that could even make TJ Uzomah a star. Nothing that couldn't be addressed with a late round draft pick. Or Cam Gandy. We have... 5 TE's on the roster? 6?

Just maybe don't take a guy with an injury history that would make Tyler Eifert say "Ouch."

Sheldon Rankins: Why was he even here to begin with *CUT*

Alex Cappa:  Not until they find someone better - in other words, get used to him

Sam Hubbard: *CUT* but they won't, 9 million Good Boy Points will buy a lot of hunny mussy

Zack Moss: Fuckin.. who? *CUT*

Geno Stone: We somehow poached the worst player on Baltimore's defense but again, who replaces him?

Cordell Volson:  We don't have another LG either.  That's still true with Volson but someone has to stand there on offense, it's in the rules.

Drew Sample:  That's a crazy price tag but you see "guy who stands behind the guards to block because they suck ass" is a crucial piece of Zac's offensive scheme. Analysts are calling it the "Offset I & Other Dude" formation.  2nd round pick BTW, another banger from Dookie Tobin.

Sheldon Rankins: Cut
Alex Cappa: Keep
Sam Hubbard: Cut
Zack Moss: Keep
Geno Stone: Cut
Cordell Volson: Keep
Drew Sample: Keep

... Just those 3 cuts are 23 million, or most of Tee's extension for 1 year.

Yes well you see they need to save that money for things that the Bengals front office assures us are definitely not a herd of adorable Shetland ponies.

and besides.. Look, they've got Joe Burrow! See!? There he is wearing an honest to goodness Bengals uniform!  He's so cool, right? With two perfectly healthy wrists of course he's not still favoring one of them a year later what a weird thing to say. Joe Burrow everyone! A Bengal!  Boy howdy he'd sure look great on instant replays beamed directly to 4K screens in the back of every Club-level seat!  Too bad that mean old county government would rather spend your tax money on roads or fire departments or whatever.. 4K screens!! It's like being there, but you already are!  And so is Joe Burrow - look at him scramble from an unblocked 300lb lineman! Incredible!  And we've got some other guys probably I think, some of them are super funny and nice and come from Ohio too! What a QB though!

Er, you want to keep Cappa, Moss, and Volson? I don't. We could put the 14 mil we save from them to better use with vet guards to protect Sheisty.

They are fairly cheap, have experience in the offense, and we don't currently have good replacements.

The 3 I said to cut have price tags that outweigh those considerations.

We don't currently have good replacements for Stone, Hubbard, and Rankins either. We can sign or draft them though. We don't really have to extend Trey and Ja'Mar until after the draft. They'd prefer to get it done sooner than later but as long as it's before training camp and the numbers are promised, they'll be ok.

Free agency is strong at guard and edge rusher. The draft is strong all across the D-line and at RB. Other positions are less abundant. My view is that I don't want to trust a rookie to protect Burrow so we should sign a couple of veteran guards who are upgrades from Cappa/Volson. That's not a high bar and doesn't require Trey Smith or Fries. Risner/Zeitler/Tomlinson/Jenkins/Becton/Daniels type players would be upgrades. So sign a couple of them, probably for less combined than we save from cutting Volson/Cappa and move on to the defense. Extend Ford for his versatility and it's fine to draft a guy but maybe Kirkland can be OG4 if we don't draft anyone at guard.

I'd put Pratt on there before Sample. The latter got overpaid but it mostly hit the cap last year.

agreed, pratt is LONG GONE.

i think only 3 under contract though. once that league year free agency hits in a few weeks. and All is one of them.. so Sample and McLaughlin or whatever is it under contract right?

thats not how it has sounded, Goldne has seemingly purposely left him out of talking about the core players on defense... i think dude is long long long gone

explain this.. the season just ended... how would we have got replacements so far? the draft is 2+ months away... free agency is a mnoth away....

of course if no guards hit the market and are none in the draft we probably wont cut Cappa....  but i think we are all talking about these guys being cut once they grab repalcements, like "we need to replace and cut these guys"

if we had replacements they would just be the starters...

Think of it in terms of adding that $3M to Volson's current salary and instead signing a better guard that doesn't need Sample to stand behind him and block for him.

I'm suggesting we replace him with a capable OL and a TE that can do what TE's generally do instead of carrying 5 of them in order to get that stuff done.

I see no surprise in cutting any of your first 4..

Behead them all...🗡️

Battle replaces Bell .

Does Anthony replace Stone?

Ehhhhh.....

Draft Starks then everything goes up a notch

Volson.

Pros.

Knows the entire system.

Durable ...

Cons.

Serious Strength issues still..

Not enough talent to start.

With the cuts coming they'll be in prime position to sign their studs..

Er, we don't. BJ argued that we should keep some guys most of us want to cut because we didn't have their replacements lined up. We can cut guys as we sign their replacements, either in free agency or the draft. I'm not worried that we won't be able to find guard upgrades from Cappa and Volson as we have lots of cap space and will be one of the first calls for every agent.

He never believed it before .

Pratt can't cover..he misses to many tackles despite his totals.

He's never been a coveted Blitzer of any means

They need to upgrade his position ..
