So perfection is the standard?  It’s not like York was perfect, unless I’m misremembering his missed game winner against Denver.  All kickers miss.  McPherson was as good as the Bengals have ever had until last season and he’s still young.  It would be as bad of a mistake as keeping Fat Randy over Elliott if you get rid of McPherson now.

I guess we'll see, but again I have to ask how many kicks do you let him miss inside of 50 yards before you pull the plug?

Honestly, yes.  How many more missed kicks do you want to give him?  Maybe he "bounces back" and maybe he doesn't.  I don't want to lose more games waiting to find out.

A lot of kickers had a bad season this year. Not making excuses, just saying it was odd.

He was in Tate Ratledge's spot and had to go. 😉

Could be right....

Ratledge is probably a better prospect than Cappa ever was

Time to upgrade..

Not to many.

He's MaybeMac now for a reason.......

Was it his security in a contract,?

Whatever the reason I'm not so s cute in his FGs as before.

Your point eludes me, as does your reason for such certainty.

I have to agree with ..

Cappa was good until he wasn't

Dropoffs are a bitch when it happens so quickly.

His did...

In four years, he’s missed 10 FG under 50 yards, half of which happened his second year.  All five of his missed FG in 2023 were from over 50, as were 4 of his 6 misses last year.  I think he set the bar pretty high his first couple years making 14 out of 16 over 50.  The Bengals will be happy if he goes back to making 83-84% with most of the misses over 50.

^ Elite. And he already played next to Mims before.

As Guards usually go in the NFL a 3rd round pick for him seems accurate.

nasty brawler combined with good technique.

He could solve either guard spots for yrs hopefully.

If you don't support drafting RG Tate Ratledge to replace Cappa, you hate freedom  🇺🇸  🦅

I support drafting Tate in rd3..

He's that good..

Those 10.25 hands are an extra benefit to lock on his opponent....

Good analysis..kickers are Expected to make more and more 50 plus kicks.

He has to upgrade that area to stay at the top of his game.

I hope he bounces back to being "MoneyMac"..

Why not spend an early pick on a guard? Booker,Jackson,Ratledge, are all good players.

Because then you'd be starting a rookie and hoping/wishing he's an improvement over the vets who weren't up to the job last year. It's not impossible but I wouldn't want to roll the dice that way when there are plenty of veteran guards available in free agency who are definitely upgrades over Volson/Cappa and won't cost a lot.

You wrote 3 different things here and none of them are going to happen

Volson isn't going to start

Ford isn't going to walk

McPherson isn't getting cut

Agreed on all 3.

I doubt a random replacement kicker will be more reliable than MdPherson. He should be healed up for the start of training camp and they just need more practice with the snap-hold-kick operation.

Could that injury that finally took out McPherson been bothering him all year?

Intriguing question

Could explain his posture to kick as he had done in the past.

Needed to happen. He did some good things early but after the injuries he just wasn’t the same. I wish him well.

100%, i thought he was just surrounded by shit and having an off year here or there, but when i heard he had a lingering injury from 2023 that wasnt recovering well from or should i say wasnt able to come back from and play at a high level, like was healthy but bad now.. it was clearly time to go.

onto the next one.

I'm just annoyed that one of the Bengals whose name made a Tibor nickname easy is gone.

Good riddance, Crappa.

I mean..  Yeah he sucked last year but now our starting guards are Cordell Volson and the sound of wind in the trees.

Are you saying you wouldn't have released Cappa? Or that we shouldn't have released him until we've got his replacement lined up?

Disagree with both propositions. Also glad we didn't get in on Jonah Jackson (traded from Rams to Bears today) at 17 mil salary.

I guess it depends on who they get to replace him but keeping Volson was an interesting choice.  JS there are no - as in zero - guards we would want starting next year.  For a team that's struggled to find decent OL that may be a problem.

3 years ago we worked out deals with Cappa and Karras in the first 10 minutes of free agency (wink, wink). I'd expect something similar this year. The negotiating period opens on the 12th with contracts able to be signed on the 14th. So the fact we haven't agreed to terms with anyone yet doesn't worry me. Ford may wish to see his market value, as is his right. We won't end up with Kirkland or Cochran as our first choice starter.

So, be of good cheer, at least about the guard positions. A veteran upgrade from Cappa is the bare minimum and hopefully a Ford re-signing and starting LG as well.

I'll give them credit for all that once they've actually done it

Trey isn't getting that # from Cincinnati.

Could be a sign he's traded.

For WHAT?

No draft pick is going to get 14 sacks in 2025. No FA either.

Likewise, no other human is going to get Maxx cash. But the high bar just got raised.

If the Bengals really want to make hay while the sun shines (Burrow), it’s simply going to have to be bite the bullet now, or just stay at the “in the hunt” level
