It’s not like York was perfect, unless I’m misremembering his missed game winner against Denver. All kickers miss. McPherson was as good as the Bengals have ever had until last season and he’s still young. It would be as bad of a mistake as keeping Fat Randy over Elliott if you get rid of McPherson now. I guess we'll see, but again I have to ask how many kicks do you let him miss inside of 50 yards before you pull the plug? 1 Quote
Hooky Posted March 3 Report Posted March 3 21 minutes ago, T-Dub said: Honestly, yes. How many more missed kicks do you want to give him? Maybe he "bounces back" and maybe he doesn't. I don't want to lose more games waiting to find out. A lot of kickers had a bad season this year. Not making excuses, just saying it was odd. 1 Quote

New Jersey Bengal Posted March 3 Report Posted March 3 Could that injury that finally took out McPherson been bothering him all year? Quote
Inigo Montoya Posted March 3 Report Posted March 3 46 minutes ago, T-Dub said: I guess we'll see, but again I have to ask how many kicks do you let him miss inside of 50 yards before you pull the plug? In four years, he’s missed 10 FG under 50 yards, half of which happened his second year. All five of his missed FG in 2023 were from over 50, as were 4 of his 6 misses last year. I think he set the bar pretty high his first couple years making 14 out of 16 over 50. The Bengals will be happy if he goes back to making 83-84% with most of the misses over 50. 4 Quote

As Guards usually go in the NFL a 3rd round pick for him seems accurate. nasty brawler combined with good technique. He could solve either guard spots for yrs hopefully. 1 Quote

He has to upgrade that area to stay at the top of his game. I hope he bounces back to being "MoneyMac".. 1 Quote

Because then you'd be starting a rookie and hoping/wishing he's an improvement over the vets who weren't up to the job last year. It's not impossible but I wouldn't want to roll the dice that way when there are plenty of veteran guards available in free agency who are definitely upgrades over Volson/Cappa and won't cost a lot. 3 hours ago, MichaelWeston said: You wrote 3 different things here and none of them are going to happen Volson isn't going to start Ford isn't going to walk McPherson isn't getting cut Agreed on all 3. 3 hours ago, T-Dub said: Honestly, yes. I doubt a random replacement kicker will be more reliable than MdPherson. He should be healed up for the start of training camp and they just need more practice with the snap-hold-kick operation. 1 Quote

I wish him well. 100%, i thought he was just surrounded by shit and having an off year here or there, but when i heard he had a lingering injury from 2023 that wasnt recovering well from or should i say wasnt able to come back from and play at a high level, like was healthy but bad now.. it was clearly time to go. onto the next one. tibor75 Posted March 5 Report Posted March 5 I'm just annoyed that one of the Bengals whose name made a Tibor nickname easy is gone. Good riddance, Crappa. Quote

Are you saying you wouldn't have released Cappa? Or that we shouldn't have released him until we've got his replacement lined up? Disagree with both propositions. Also glad we didn't get in on Jonah Jackson (traded from Rams to Bears today) at 17 mil salary. 1 Quote

JS there are no - as in zero - guards we would want starting next year. For a team that's struggled to find decent OL that may be a problem. Quote
sparky151 Posted March 5 Report Posted March 5 3 years ago we worked out deals with Cappa and Karras in the first 10 minutes of free agency (wink, wink). I'd expect something similar this year. The negotiating period opens on the 12th with contracts able to be signed on the 14th. So the fact we haven't agreed to terms with anyone yet doesn't worry me. Ford may wish to see his market value, as is his right. We won't end up with Kirkland or Cochran as our first choice starter. So, be of good cheer, at least about the guard positions. A veteran upgrade from Cappa is the bare minimum and hopefully a Ford re-signing and starting LG as well. Quote

Le Tigre Posted March 5 Report Posted March 5 53 minutes ago, BlackJesus said: Could be a sign he's traded. For WHAT? No draft pick is going to get 14 sacks in 2025. No FA either. Likewise, no other human is going to get Maxx cash. But the high bar just got raised. If the Bengals really want to make hay while the sun shines (Burrow), it’s simply going to have to be bite the bullet now, or just stay at the “in the hunt” level Quote
