Trey'd Hendrickson? I don't think so.

Featured Replies

Well when Joey B is slinging the rock all over the field against the Rats, Trey will most likely be on the sideline squatted down with a trainer tending to his back.

I wish him well in every game but two next year and beyond.

On second thought... maybe not as it will affect us.

Kind of over him. Now let's see what we can come up with.

... It would be the most delicious irony if the Bengals grabbed Crosby and he balled out.

If I were the billionaire that owned the Bengals, I'd try to get Crosby for 2 reasons:

1.) He'd make the team better

2.) Pure spite

This a business built on entertainment value. Think of all of the value that can be driven off of that move.

I would not give them our #10 overall pick for him

I don't think they are getting a 1st round pick this year for him. Not now. The Ravens screwed the Raiders on that.

Look out below!!!

If that was a reporter making his way to Burrow's locker for an interview he would've stopped them cold

They are disingenuous bastards...proof positive.

But the NFL loves them. Nothing to see here.

How is their offensive line doing? What goes arond comes arond they ll get theirs

One always likes to think. But they have the savvy to get bodies to plug in when they need to. I just look at all of their player/coaches turnover in years gone by: one leaves…two more just as good come in.

Yeah, he might have to settle for making $20M for half a year's work, maybe even $15M. Totally screwed.

I mean, you put it that way, then of course we know that is a lot of money, but from his standpoint it is not. I screamed he didn't deserve the 30 Million they paid him due to his age and health and then, boom, hurt, gone. I also said before they gave him the 30 Million that he was too old and is broken down and we should trade him for anything, well, now we don't get diddly squat unless the FAs we pick up are less than we lose, but of course, probably the likes of you, don't remember and don't care, bashed me for my comments. So do you want a cookie?

4 years $112M. I bet only 2 years are guaranteed and he doesn't see the balance of the 4 years.

They are stupid.

Relax, buddy. You're forgetting that priceless bottom of the 3rd round comp pick.

He was right to ask for the same money as Phillips or Hunter because he's a better pass rusher than either of them. Nobody bit so he "settled" for Maxx Crosby money but with more guaranteed.

Bengals definitely should have tagged him.

For what purpose? They did not want him on the team anymore. Their business relationship with him had ended.

As far as a this supposed tag and trade bit... It's pretty clear at this point that he was asking for a lot more than he ended up signing for. It's also clear that nobody else wanted to pay him that much. He did not have the market for his services that him and his agent believed he should have. The team obviously realized that their only choice was to just cut him loose and be done with it.

If you want to claim that they should have traded him last year then yep, they 100% should have. In hind-sight, that's the mistake they made.

The league disagrees about Trey’s value. His contract is essentially a 2 year deal well below the top of the DE market. He did end up getting guaranteed money in year 2 which the Bengals wouldn’t give him but that’s about it.

For the best interest of the team. He has trade value and the team should have harvested it. If they had arranged a trade at the combine and given Trey permission to negotiate with other teams ahead of the tampering period they could have had a deal in place ahead of time and been the first ones out of the gate. As is, they may or may not get a comp pick for him and at best it would be pick 97 in 2027.

There was basically no downside to tagging him. Either they make a trade which brings them something in 2026 or they don't find a trade partner and can revoke the tag and be exactly where they are now or Trey signs the tag and they keep their best defensive player for a year at a cost of 30.2 mil, which is easily covered by simple restructure of Burrow and Chase, without even adding any void years.

Instead the team has put about half the money saved by letting Hendrickson walk into Jonathan Allen who is well past his prime and been poor the last 2 years for Washington and Minnesota. We're paying Allen more than BJ Hill, who is a better player and likely to remain the starting 3T.

So we let our pass rush suffer and get to watch OBj try to block Trey on Burrow's blindside for the next few years. Yay. Maybe we sign Bosa or Clowney and they plus Mafe have more sacks than Hendrickson+Ossai next year. Maybe.

Should've traded him 2 years ago when this started going sour. Instead they wanted to prove some point that's already lost on everyone and here we are...

But hey! They might have earned the 99th overall pick next year, so who really won in the end?

The silver lining in this is that Cincinnati is now expected to get a high compensatory pick as a result of Hendrickson signing a huge contract. Over the Cap is running their projections for 2027 compensatory picks and the Bengals are currently projected to receive a third-round pick next year

Yeah, silver lining - but they have done an absolutely isht job of turning those compensatory picks into anything useful. I get that it’s another bite at the apple but the last three 3rd rounders that were compensatory, all under Duke’s tenure, were Jermaine Burton, Malik Jefferson, and Paul Dawson. And Burton was the “best” of those three. Jefferson and Dawson never played a meaningful snap, and we know about the third guy.

I’m sure they’re playing the compensatory game but as a fan, I have zero confidence that it would amount to anything, based on past history.

Maybe Dookie can be like the blind squirrel that finds a truffle some times.
