i still dont know why you think that law means anything to anyone?

have you never seen the power of the nfl? even if they faced some sort of penalty, it would be pocket lint to the league/team. The league would LOVE the tem to move to a better market.

literally. PRIME exacmple RIGHT NOW.. is the sunday ticket nfl price gauging lawsuit, a jury trial awarded 4.7 BILLION after full trial and decision..

supreme court judge threw it out like it was stale cheerios. no one cares.. money is power, money wins.. some bullshit ass ohio butthurt law means absolutely NOTHING.

lucky for everyone they have no intention of leaving.. but they should have gone to baltimore when they had the chance.

and we all know the city will cave and give whats needed.... but certainly some silly law passed for political grandstanding for a politician to appease butthurt fans when a team left isnt stoping the nfl from doing anything ever.

The Rams relocation led to a lawsuit with St. Louis, which ended with a $790 million settlement in 2021.  Then there’s the relocation fees, which most recently cost the Rams/Chargers $645 million and the Raiders $378 million in 2017.  It’s very costly to move a team and I don’t see the Brown family having much of an appetite to pony up that kind of coin, even if they can land a sweetheart stadium deal from another city.

Was gonna put this in the "enemies" thread, but posting here considering how much ownership is planning on putting into the stadium...

LOL. Do you think the city of Cincy gets to look forward to "Hosting a Super Bowl" as a part of their investment?

But to be fair.... DC is in the envious place of being able to hit up 3 different states. They strongarm Maryland by going "Well, we could always just build our stadium in Northern Virginia..." The DC metro area is small. And 495 (DC's ring road) passes through Maryland, Pennsylvania, And Virginia.

But it seems like Cincy could play the same game. 275 makes it pretty easy to put a stadium in Burlington or Lawrenceburg. So even threats of a move doesn't necessarily mean that they're not the Cincy team anymore. Maybe they're just "helping" Kentucky build up a waterfront in Burlington.

lol that sales tax will ever be paid off,

There always has been a sales tax in Hamilton County…as there are in every Ohio county.

Cuyahoga has the highest rate…followed by Hamilton (tied with much smaller Coshocton).

The sales tax is adjusted annually for every county, and may not necessarily be connected to capital expenditures. Very few examples of these adjustments reducing.

Welcome to government.

495 doesn't pass through Pennsylvina, it is a big loop that goes around DC in both VA and MD.

When they were talking about putting the stadium down by my house, it would have been right off of 95, which goes throughout the US.

We in Franklin county also get an 8% sales tax rate thanks to COTA.

I was surprised to learn that only like 17% of COTA’s revenues come from fares. There’s discussions about doing away with fares.

Tinkering around with tax rates—even if, ostensibly, it would be covered by an innocuous “sin tax increase”, is a gamble. The bottom half of the article gives a nice breakdown of what can happen if the lending rates even tick up a smidgen. Who might be holding the bag for the difference? Not the state.

Getting the state to ante up anything, is no slam dunk—even for the Cleveland boondoggle project.

Thankfully, there are enough fiscally sane reps in the legislature who may be able to throw roadblocks into the stadium-funding insanity. The Governor sure as hell isn’t

Public funding for billion dollar NFL teams is unpopular. It usually loses at the ballot box. KC voters massively rejected funding for fixing up Arrowhead last year.

The Browns are trying to build a stadium over the objections of Cleveland and Cuyahoga county. And hoping the county kicks in 600 mil as well. The city of Brook Park is asking the state to grant them $71 mil for road improvements around the site in addition to the team asking to borrow the $600 mil from the state.

Not so opposed to road improvements around the stadium itself. That's something the team can't do on their own.

On the other hand, that's also how you end up with this total boondoggle:

Seems like the legislature is determined to fund the stadium, at least the $600 mil requested from Ohio. Haslams are still short 600 mil they want from Cuyahoga county and Brook Park. It will be a cold day in hell before the county hands over money to move the team from downtown to the burbs. Theoretically Brook Park could set up a TIF to come up with the 600 mil but that's the mechanism the owners are proposing to pay back the state, and the town doesn't really have the financial capacity to be on the hook for a 600 million debt.

That's how the village of Bridgeview in Illinois got into trouble after wooing the Chicago Fire of MLS to their town.

I hope the owners don't fart around on this. The Sacramento Kings former owners were talking behind the city's back when it came to moving the team, even though up front they were saying they wanted to stay in Sacramento. It took a miracle to keep them here, and we have one of the most awesome arenas in the NBA now. Too bad the Kings suck.

The Bengals ownership is definitely farting around on it. They want credit for money they spend years ago toward the proposal for upgrades to the stadium. That's basically a non-starter since the task is to come up with 830 million dollars of new money. So they claim they are contributing 200 mil but it's 155 of new money with 45 mil in credit for past contributions since the stadium opened. Even if you agreed with that it would be 200 mil of a total of 875 or 23% of the total. The Haslams are paying 50% of the total for their stadium plus all overruns.

Bengals offer isn't serious at this point.
