CTB is in a contract year so in typical Bengals fashion I expect him to make the pro bowl and get real expensive right before it's time to extend him. 😢

I forget who tweeted it or if it was posted here already but someone covering practice today said he's been getting a lot of run in the slot.

Then we draft a DB and try to lowball him

^ CTB would probably take a moderate extension now at like 3 year, 21 mill (7 per).

Which yes is a gamble, but if he balls out he will want 15+ per year. So you can get big discounts by taking the risk early. i.e. The Eagles way.

I agree with your thinking, but how is that working out with Trey Hendrickson's deal? From the player's side - he shouldn't sign a deal like that.

BTW, the eagles way would be to give him a $45M signing bonus, salaries of $1M and tack 3 void years onto a 3 year contract to spread the hit out across 6 years. Then redo the contract in 3 years to converty the remainder to a bonus and then repeat the process. I'm pretty sure that the NFL owners have been discussing whether or not to stop this tactic as it might be violating the "integrity" of the salary cap.
