June 4, 2025Jun 4 comment_1797332 No, when Goodell and owners complain about the "integrity" of the cap, they are complaining about the players getting 50% of designated gross revenues. They want to squeeze more from the union. The NFLPA is a famously weak union as NFL careers are short so the rank and file can't afford to miss games. Star players are willing to take a harder line but all the members of the union get to vote and most are more concerned with things like minimum salaries than franchise tags or disciplinary processes. Owners know that players won't give up game checks so they can threaten lockouts and such to get what they want. Report

In a league will a larger and larger revenue pot it is hard to argue that players should get less than 50%. In fact 50% seems just about right in the middle lol. Was it not 52% in the previous contract and the owners had to scramble to pull it back to 50%. Given how high the franchise values are it is tough to argue the owners need a higher cut. They might try and settle on a scaled model, with 50% up to $X Billion total and then 49% for the next $Y Billion after that, etc. Report

Probably not, but it would be nice for overall team cohesion and comradery. On the other end of the spectrum, Stewart not practicing is just a damn shame. For all the talk about fast starts, and Al Golden trying to install a new system, this certainly doesn't help the needy pass rush situation. Report
June 10, 2025Jun 10 comment_1797612 The issue with Trey isn't him missing some practices, it's that the team hasn't made an offer to him since April and it's bad for team cohesion to have their best defensive player absent from a "mandatory" camp. They can fine him the $105K but it doesn't matter much one way or the other. If he misses training camp, the fine is $40K per day and if he misses pre-season games, I think it costs a regular season game check.Stewart could certainly use the practice so the team is just being dumb in trying to get a contract term no agent would let him accept.
