There's a slight difference in that this ownership group hasn't won shit, ever. They've also been ripped by agents and former players the entire time so it's not like fans are just making this stuff up out of nowhere. Tobin & the team have an agenda just like Stewart & his agent have theirs, both are trying to spin things to their advantage. They both seem to be trying to prove something beyond this specific deal and it's holding things up.

What has the Bengals FO done to earn the benefit of the doubt? They've been dragging their feet on every major negotiation since they inked Burrow.

Multiple media outlets have made the point, recently, that this always seems to be worse for the Bengals. Rich Eisen, Pat MacAfee, Florio, etc...

Sure, other teams have these issues, but we have a higher frequency at a greater severity. And that's just not us grumpy Bengals fans who don't pay attention to the rest of the NFL.

Even in this thread... There are videos talking about how Stewart's "terrible agent" was going to cause problems for the Bengals "stubborn management" that other teams didn't have to fear as much. Used as a way to say that the Agent is the problem. Even in this thread, there is content acknowledging that our management sucks from people trying to defend them. The talk of them refusing to modernize is no longer painted with even the slightest rose tint. The number of people who don't acknowledge that the Bengals are terribly run is small, shrinking, and centered on the 513 area code. And I know nothing is going to seep through and change your mind. But this is an almost comical mischaracterization of the national perception of the Bengals as an organization.

Hoping for a bounce back year 2025. But really need to start with players who will show up and really play. And those that don't, may need to turn loose.

But hopefully Stewart's agent really will in a sense, allow his client to be in camp and show his loyalty in the team drafting him.

Their careers as a punter and professional press conference attendee may give a little more in-person insights…but by no means any more than the serious internet addict. How many draft picks have you personally talked to? How many times have you sat down to dinner with Bill Bellichik? How many NFL contracts have you SEEN - period? Florio is a Lawyer... In a broader sense, they are a barometer of national opinion. I'm not using their expertise here... I also quoted some guys from YouTube I have never heard of. This was pushing back on the idea that only we Bengals Fans complain because we don't watch the rest of the league and understand that all of the teams are badly run.

I don't think it matters one bit. You want to use this as an excuse for why the agent is demanding the contract be done without the default clauses while ignoring that the team is going to see it as a reason to have the default clauses (not that they needed this situation as a reminder) finally added to the contract. So no change on either side.

Wilkins should have been ready to perform his job duties by now if he had stuck to the rehab plan. Even if he wasn't going to be 100% he should have been a lot closer to ready than he actually is. Conflicting medical advice or not, hoping and praying it gets better over time isn't a reason to continue paying him if he's not actively addressing the issue and keeping the team updated. Sounds like that stopped happening a few months ago and this is an extremely long period of time to recover from a Jones fracture. It should be about pain management at worst by now.

He may or may not work in contract law. "Lawyers" can range from Corporate Investment types...to federal prosecutors...to ambulance chasers. One size does not fit all. The Blackburns were lead litigators for Taft at one time. That firm has more specialty focuses than other large firms put together. They were especially brilliant in Government/Public law and contracts (where my in-person experience with them was on several cases...none involving the Bengals).

Mike Brown claimed on Monday that the team needed their default language so they didn't have to pay someone who was in jail. The league already had that covered so he was just blowing smoke.

In the Wilkins case, he hasn't been arrested or anything like that. It's a question of medical treatment. He broke his foot in a game last year, had surgery, and apparently isn't fully recovered yet. The team wanted him to have another surgery and it looks like he got advice from elsewhere to let it heal on its own. Players have an absolute right per the CBA to choose their own doctor and take advice from whomever they want, rather than the team doctor. Wilkins is expected to visit other teams, who will no doubt examine his scans and give him a physical. We'll see if he plays in the NFL this season or not but I'd bet he will be signed somewhere this season.

As it relates to Stewart, it would be an example of a team taking away money that was contractually guaranteed without the player doing anything wrong. You can bet other players around the league will start spelling out in more detail when defaults occur and Stewart's agent isn't going to give the team much leeway. A year ago the Raiders were celebrating signing Wilkins, this offseason they get a new coach and GM and suddenly Wilkins is old news and cast aside.
