Crypto-militarism comes to Columbus

Featured Replies

Interesting read, especially since I live in Columbus.

Couple of things:

  1. Intel’s project has been delayed, AGAIN, and now they’re anticipating not finishing it until 2031. So, I don’t know how crucial the “housing crunch “ is right now. Plus, Columbus just approved a new zoning initiative that is allowing for more higher density construction than in the past along the High St. corridor (the main north-south corridor) and Broad St. (the main east-west corridor), which means that conceivably, I could wake up one morning and discover that they’re building a 7 story ugly monstrosity in view of my kitchen window. They’re also trying to rezone Morse Rd. and SR 161 (2 other east-west corridors on the north side) which would make a lot more sense because they are closer to the Intel project. There’s a lot of people in Licking County trying to sell their properties for exorbitant amounts of money. Reminds me of when Les Werner developed New Albany in the 80’s.

  2. Anduril, IIRC, is being built near Rickenbacher Airport, which is in Lockbourne, very close to Pickaway County, so aside from employing Columbus residents, I’m not sure how much of a tax benefit Columbus will see.

  3. I know they think that cryptocurrency is the future, and I’m going to admit right now that I don’t know a lot about it, but I do know that you can’t use it to buy real estate in the state of Ohio. It’s not considered “good funds” under the ORC.

His worldview is similar to the idea that the bomb would prevent your adversaries from going to war with you

The thing he is missing is that the bomb isn't controlled by an AI, I get the whole using AI to do targeting but he is talking full autonomy that the AI could potentially decide to kill what it determines is a target and it could very well be wrong.

This man is a sociopath

All I know is someone needs to catch that thing on his chin before it bites him.

FWIW Tucson just rejected a massive Amazon AI/data center server farm called "Project Blue", primarily based on the obscene amount of water it would consume trying to cool the thing in the middle of the Sonoran effin' Desert. I'm sure it'll get built somewhere, though.

The Datacenter AI energy problem really needs to be solved, its going to be a big issue if its not already

So does this notion that there's actual intelligence at work & not simply theft of IP being collated and regurgitated.
