I would be surprised if they did. They would have to claim him and cut / IR-recall someone in order to do it. If it weren't for the injury designation, I'd have agreed that he'd likely be a PS candidate. He's most likely just going to the NE IR list (assuming he's actually injured).

Really think that he will go to the PS. Not the NE IR!!

For sure , many of the draft sights had him as a late round pick but he slid.

The Cincinnati Bengals are waiving rookie center Seth McLaughlin, according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson. Despite a push for the 53-man roster, McLaughlin will now be subject to waivers.

A former Alabama and Ohio State standout, McLaughlin ruptured his Achilles tendon in November 2024. That injury forced him to miss the rest of the season for the Buckeyes, including their postseason run on the way to a National Championship.

The injury is likely the only thing that kept him from being one of the top centers selected during the 2025 draft.

He is not even 10 months removed from the injury and was back in extended game action on Saturday for the Cincinnati Bengals against the Indianapolis Colts in the preseason finale. He took all of the second-half snaps at center and graded out with a 71.3 run block grade and a 68.2 pass block grade per PFF.

The film showed a player who is still working through the injury and trying to get back to 100%, which is likely to take at least a couple more months. All things considered, though, it was an impressive performance for a player that many thought wouldn’t even be back on the practice field at this point in his recovery.

Even if McLaughlin is not going to play early, I still think it would have been a wise decision to keep him on the 53-man roster this season. The Rimington Award winner showed enough in the preseason finale and from his play with the Buckeyes prior to injury that he would likely be claimed on the waiver wire if the Bengals tried to stash him on the practice squad.

Alas, we’ll now have to wait to see if McLaughlin can make it through waivers and onto the Bengals’ practice squad to stay in Cincinnati.
