Aside from playing 40 year old Joe Flacco while paying a sex offender a billion dollars, what the Browns doin'? I don't think they have a Ray Rice at RB to carry Captain Checkdown but it's Cleveland so if anyone so happens to have a woman-beater that also catches the ball well out of the backfield on their roster, it's probably them.

Judkins never signed with them. They used the pick they got from Jacksonville on him. Later they drafted Dylan Sampson and have a couple of non-descript vets.

Sampson has some burst and was SEC offensive player of the year last season.

Jeudy is their best receiver and he's pretty meh. Tillman is their 2nd WR. Their O-line is healthy at the moment but pretty old. Flacco is ancient and holding the starting job until the season is toast and they put Gabriel in.

Their defense is banged up but better than the offense.

Bengals have a much better roster and should win by 10 points or more.

They announced Gabriel as the backup, Sanders as QB3. They added Bailey Zappe to their PS this week after trading Pickett to the Raiders. Watson is still around on PUP and theoretically could return this season. I'm surprised they didn't put him on season ending IR and let him go on vacation. But maybe their insurance policy wouldn't pay out the 44 mil they expect to get if they don't give him a chance to get healthy.

Any game in that building, is going to be a crapshoot.

I wouldn't bet on it. I'm expecting more shoot-outs, only hopefully not missing the last second FG or whatever this time around. Maybe a timely INT or something out of the defense here & there.

All things considered, they still have a more-than-decent defense. If even their motley offense can get enough chances, it can be very interesting

well until we actually stop it in a real game, i expect to see their rb and te walk out take 3-5 yard reception with no one around them ,
sadly even though the bengals offense was scoring the shit out of points last year teams still had so much success at running they simply ran it.
IF the defense can get off the field . the offense needs to stay on it .

I'm concerned about the defense as much as anybody, I just really hope they can create more turnovers...of course that also means we need the offense to capitalize and turn them into points (which I believe they can do).

its interesting how these games also include some circumstances... like a late one no one cares about, an early one with some disaster going on, havent had a random november meetup in 4 years ish i think..

ill take the browns as the opener every season though... this is as straight forward of a matchup as you could imagine, no rookie qb, no young guy with no film... an old statue pocket passer, it really limits the "oh what the fuck is this" moment for week 1 a lot... which is ideal..

forgive me if im misreading the tone.. but it seems a bit too much is made of the "not showing anything" preseason stuff...

its not "we are being coy on purpose to hide or sweet schemes"

its just "we didnt scheme for an opponent, we arent playing the strengths of this team, we are testing getting formations, player reactions on the fly.. "

its not some secret mission and coy-ness... its just going through the football motions to build a roster.

was it 14/14 preseason games went for the over and some dude won 200k? defense is formailities and practice... offense isnt much different... some teams have young players and have them run an offense, see if they can contribute soon, some teams have a roster set and have guys running varios schemes for fringe roles, nothing means anything as far as outcomes..

youre looking for guys who made a wild solo play, like Tinsley(iirc) and athletic guys, bursts of smarts or reactions faster than others..

i think we are just seearching for things to be mad about on this one...

knowing how much guys are getting paid vs it being under the table doesnt change a ton for me... theyll get a cap on it soon but it urges guys to stay in college and form longer, gets guys buried on depth charts to teams to play, lots of positives from this system.

I suppose the NCAA may suddenly someday become the bastion of sports integrity they held so high as a standard so many years ago…but I see no reason for them to do so—any more than I would see the NFL regain legitimacy again.

The insane money to be made will, in the end, prove to be the foundation of future. One of the many reasons I no longer pay the slightest attention to Div 1/Superconference football any longer.

yeah its a way way back point for integrity in college sports to be found. it was hidden really really well for a lot longer though, i guess also what we all consider to be integrity changes things, i know the bob huggins (one of my favorites) in the early 90's being a drunking heathen around town constant DUI's and those are just the ones he didnt get hushed for his status in the community. to woody hayes hitting players, to the cheating from various schools..

it feels a lot like everyone just started being an asshole outloud.

and i find the ncaa portal rules favorable, as it stands my kid is in his third year of college. and he can go to a D2 ncaa team next year, redshirt, and still have 4 years of eligability left.. he could be an eligible college athlete for 8 years
