Browns Week Part Uno

IIRC being undersized for a NT was kind of holding him back. Normal for a rookie but if he manages to keep that quick get-off/first step he showed a few times last year he could be a force. He's another one that I hope doesn't get buried on the depth chart.

I actually thought Jackson flashed more last year in making plays upfield, and in pursuit than being stout against the run. Which really isn’t what I expected.

Will be interesting to see how much he plays and what he does with those opportunities this fall.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Cleveland Browns

The Bengals just missed the playoffs last year despite a fast and furious finish to 2024 that included 5 straight victories in their final 5 games.  The emphasis on a fast start was evident in camp as Coach Taylor had his starters on the field more than most other teams in games that don’t count.  The offense will be plenty, as Joe Flacco and company won’t have enough fire power to expose the putrid Cincy D.  Bengals should roll here.

While this may look like a mismatch on paper, these AFC North games always seem to be tough. Which means that although the Bengals are fielding an offensive powerhouse in 2025, don’t be shocked if the Browns hang around longer than expected in this one.

The Cleveland defense will come to play, and boasts enough talent under Jim Schwartz to at least slow down the explosive Cincy attack led by Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. The question is can 40-year-old Joe Flacco squeeze enough out of this low-fi Browns offense to keep pace? The answer is likely “no”, even against what will likely be a flaccid Bengals defense.

I would hope being called "putrid" and "flaccid" would fire up this defense but let me also add "slow" and "baby doodoo soft" to the list.

Just in case!

I think only 8 of the 10 DL will be active on Sunday. Got to assume Cross will be one of the DL inactives with either CSample or MJackson being the other.

and they might. Since the Raiders left The Town could be the Browns finally rival Schittsburgh for the grimiest fanbase in American pro* sports.

*Some of these college teams still fly Confederate flags at the tailgate, not going there, literally.

Be nice if one of them could pick off Captain Checkdown. Feel like if this team doesn't have him figured out by now they never will.

Also, one game and all but if they get lit up by him I'd expect a rough season.

Either way it's likely to come down to the last 3 games again. If the AFC stays relatively healthy it's going to be a scrap. Winning the division will be tough and there's no guarantee that would equal the #1 seed, but that'd be Happy Holidays regardless. At least one playoff win and I'd think they're getting back on track. Wild card flop or worse & it's torches and pitchforks.
