Strong take. It's not our money, their draft picks are like throwing darts anyway (and they're probably going to have offers to trade down = more darts). Perhaps most importantly it also reminds the rest of the team that they still have games on the schedule they are getting paid crazy money to take seriously. (aka "fun", for us.)

IDK, maybe I'm coming around but how mobile is Winston? If we're going to replace Browning it has to be someone that can make plays with his feet.

Because our OL still sucks, remember.

Apparently, Burton was late for a practice last week so that’s why he was inactive on Monday. If they want Burton, they can have him, but he can’t seem to avoid distractions in Cincinnati. How much worse would it be for him in New York?

Last time I checked he lived at Crescent at the Banks. It’s literally a 6 min walk to the stadium. 2 min by scooter.

Who? Jameis Winston when he throws a terrible interception at crunch time.

Yes, they said that on the MNF broadcast at some point. Why the hell is this guy still on the roster? Talk about no accountability.

The only reason you even spend the resources to acquire Winston is if you legitimately think Burrow is coming back this season (personally, I highly doubt it). With that in mind, as painful of a season as it will be, you roll with Browning and indirectly reap the benefits of (presumably) better draft position and a weaker schedule for next season.

Yeah, the Bengals should have traded down with the Titans in the first round in 2023 and with the Texans in the first round in 2025. But what would they have done with the extra picks? Probably just used them to overdraft guys who bust.

If a team is average at drafting and knows it (as we should) they actually should always trade down because more picks give you a better chance of success.

If a team is great at drafting than trading up at targeted players makes more sense.

We would have more success with more picks instead of believing we can’t trade down because our board says a certain player is a steal at our spot.

It is about self awareness - if you run the smallest scouting staff in the league more volume of draft picks will serve you better.

Unless you can get a top 5 pick which dramatically increases your chances of getting a very good player.

True, but then you can trade down from the high second round pick, etc.

"Steals" like Burton. Unfortunately everyone in the organization is convinced of their infallibility. They're going to outsmart the entire NFL, you'll see! And if not well, they are Very Nice Guys and isn't that what's really important? Myles Murphy is always whistling...

The front orfice does seem to have a certain level of arrogance to them (not earned that is for sure); as if they mock the rest of the league for having twice the scouts. Fools, they can get the same draft results with half the staff kind of thinking.

Because people in the football world are just like people in the medicine world, the IT world etc…They think anyone else telling them how to do their jobs; even in an indirect way, is an insult on their mothers and react accordingly.

This should be the most humble FO in all of sports based on their performance. They’re literally hanging onto the SB and 2 AFC Championship games success and think that’s enough for people to excuse what’s currently going on

Dunning-Kruger effect in action.

Or more picks means more work for the small staff. I'd imagine their reluctance to trade up or down comes from overconfidence in their evaluating abilities. They don't move up because they don't want to give up picks and don't want to move down because they like someone available now and don't know if he'll still be available later. They already stacked their board after all.

In 2023 we resisted calls from the Titans, Falcons, and Raiders who all wanted to move into the end of round 1 to take Will Levis and get the 5th year option. Instead we took Myles Murphy. We don't know what the Falcons and Raiders were offering but the Titans made a deal with the Cardinals the next day to move up and pick Levis. They would have had to pay more to get the Bengals pick, probably something like the Titans 2nd and 3rd round picks in 2023 and 2nd in 2024. That's a cheap price to pay if you think a guy will be your franchise QB so maybe the Bengals could have gotten more. I would have done that deal and picked Dawand Jones in round 2 and Darnell Washington in round 3. Then Jackson Powers-Johnson in 2024. In real life Jones went to the Browns in round 4, Washington went to the Stealers in round 3, and JPJ to the Raiders in round 2 last year. Jones has been largely a bust as he hasn't finished a season, Washington is a good blocking TE who would be an upgrade from Drew Sample and JPJ had a good rookie year last year and would have started for the Bengals at LG and would be the center to replace Karras.

If we traded down with the Texans this year we would have picked at 25. Maybe Stewart would have still be available but probably not. Texans had picked up a collection of picks from Commanders for Tunsil. Moving down 8 spots from mid to late first round would cost at least their 2nd round pick or more likely something like their 3rd and 4th this year or 3rd this year and next. I'd have taken the 3rd and 4th this year. At pick 25 we could have chosen from Jihaad Campbell (my choice) or James Pearce, Mike Green, Nick Emmanwori, Malachi Starks, etc. I'd have spent on the O-line and D-line in free agency to be able to draft BPA. In rounds 2-4, I'd have picked CB Ben Morrison, FS Xavier Watts, RB Cam Skattebo, DE David Walker, and DT Riley Mills. That's 3 of Golden's former players, assuming he gives the thumbs up on them.

Bengals would at least have more depth if they had made those trades and would have quality starters in JPJ and Campbell.

Except, y'know, if anyone else does things all half-assed or trys to reinvent the wheel and gets shitted on they eventually go out of business.

What does not typically happen is all your competitors chip in to help keep the lights on & everybody gets paid either way.

More picks is not any more work for the scouts, the full draft board is built regardless of how many picks we had.

Out FO just thinks too highly of their board without looking back in recent history to see the many failures.

Our NHL has personnel that do nothing but look back at the last 8 drafts to see what the team board did right and what they missed and they use that information for future draft prospect scouting.

No thanks, at this point I am ready to be drafting top 5, we arent good at drafting outside the top 10, and I would say just tank and get some game changing players in the draft, but I dont think they have to try to tank.

We just have too many needs to give up picks at this point.
