The bye week will not bring any changes to the defensive coaching staff in Cincinnati.

Head coach Zac Taylor was asked about that possibility at a Monday press conference and the question comes after the team allowed 86 points and 1,078 yards in back-to-back losses to the Jets and Bears. Taylor said he “absolutely” believes the team has the right coaches in place and reiterated that when asked specifically about defensive coordinator Al Golden.

“Working like crazy,” Taylor said. “He’s a great football coach. He’s doing everything he can to uncover every single stone to make us play better. I think we’re all sick for the way these games have gone, him probably as much as anybody else on this planet. I trust in him, I trust in the staff.”

The Bengals defense had shown some signs of improvement earlier in the year, but they have now allowed the most points and yards in the league through nine weeks of play. That’s why putting up 113 points over the last three games has only resulted in one victory and they’ll need a massive shift in performance if the second half of their season is going to have a happier ending than the first one.

Bengals on pace to allow the most points in a season in NFL history

The Bengals’ 47-42 loss to the Bears on Sunday was another defensive letdown from a team that has had a season full of them.

Cincinnati has already allowed 300 points this season, by far the most in the NFL, and the Bengals are on pace to break the all-time NFL record for the most points allowed in a season.

The Bengals’ average of 33.33 points allowed per game puts them on pace to give up 567 points in a 17-game season. That would be the worst ever, breaking the record of 534 points allowed set by the 2024 Panthers. And while this year’s Bengals and last year’s Panthers allowed more points than past teams in part because the season is longer now than it was in the past, the Bengals’ average of 33.33 points per game allowed is actually worse than any team ever allowed in a 16-game season as well.

For all the talk about how quarterback Joe Burrow’s injury doomed the Bengals’ season, the arrival of Joe Flacco has stabilized the offense. The Bengals’ problem is their defense, which is one of the worst the NFL has ever seen.

Hey what if they named Wilson a starter and then benched him again next week? Does that do anything?

Imagine getting benched & then watching Murphy and Stewart line up at DE. They're lucky he's asking for a trade and not shitting in Zac's desk drawer. Fucking clown car franchise.

At this point I dgaf if he and Burton are sharing needles in the locker room like wtf have they done to have them benched? Was it worse than what got Logan Wilson benched? It's like they drew names from a hat because they wanted to make an example out of someone but have no fucking clue what's going on, or can't admit it if they do.

Either way I'm pretty damned sure Wilson was not the issue. Not saying he's good or even average at this point in his career but who tf are they kidding with that move...

I don't think Logan Wilson is washed as much as he is misused

in Golden's scheme.

Not horribly upset with keeping Golden at least for the rest of the

season because... I hate to see about anyone get fired. Besides, no

one there to replace him.

As far as the youth movement... with youth comes immaturity and the D

does seem like they are playing sand lot football, undisciplined and trying to make

every play a highlight reel play so they can celebrate for the ESPN cameras.

doesnt seem from what i hear that any players have any problems with any coaches. which is typically what creates change.

well... i should say.. no players who are still currently on the roster have any issues with any coaches...

i get th efeeling there was a really off stick in the mud situation with Logan and the new staff and the new system, putting players in a strange spot of their teammate who has led the defense for years and his potential resistance to some changes, especially in his role in that system.

this is th emost uneasy i have feld about a group of the bengals that i can remember. something else is brewing... one of two things is going to happen.

1. the team sees logal shipped off and guys get thier ducks in a row.

2. the wheels fall completely off and we break records for bad defense, and the entire side of the ball is blown up along with additional staff added to ensure the expensive blow up isnt in vein.

you typically see the first one.. but im not sure thats what we see here...

#1 would require the players to have some kind of fear of not performing. Logan asked for a trade and got it, that's hardly a warning shot. Now if they were to cut someone like Murphy for example, or Burton, or some other underperformer... Eh, maybe? There's no sense of a plan, or standards, or expectations - just 50ish guys punching a clock & going through the motions. Nothing about this organization that says the current minimal level of effort won't be tolerated.

Of course there are a few like Ja'Marr that don't need anyone to motivate them, but for every one of those there's an Orlando Brown Jr getting paid $15 million to flat-out suck. He says the right things in interviews though, never calls anyone out, big rah-rah "leader" for those easily fooled.. These younger dudes see that and how can they not assume they can coast through a career here by just showing up and getting along with everyone?

Like I've said, this is an organizational problem that's not going to be solved by firing a couple of people or cutting a couple of players. There's an overall vibe like they're running some kind of charity group home where playing football is secondary to being Nice Guys or whatever. IDK what it is exactly, let alone how they're realistically going to fix it when they won't even admit there's a problem.. But when half the starting defense gives the game away and are laughing as they blow off the press on the way out the door.. Clearly there's a fundamental lack of respect for the team and franchise.

but no sure yeah he requested a trade and the bengals just said ok and dealt him for a garbage can... that how they behave historically right?

Of course he wasn't doing "fine", but compared to the rest of the defense that they seem content to run out there week after week? Battle, Stone, Murphy.. Or OBjr on offense for that matter, like why are they still pretending he's some kind of badass lynchpin & veteran leader? It's total bullshit but no one in the organization wants to admit it. There's this overall sort of collective delusion where so long as everyone goes along with it, plays nice and never says a negative word about anything, their jobs are secure. Just don't ever say the emperor is bare-assed & you're all good, Bengal for life.

To the point at hand though, how does trading Logan Wilson send any kind of message?

How did Logan go from being raised by Al Golden to being on the outs?

Listening to the LBs today, they really saw him as a leader. I don't buy that he was a bad apple.

I still blame the DL coach. Fire his ass.
