January 7Jan 7 comment_1818368 For me this is the biggest priority of the off-season. He's a top 10 G in the league (top 5 in pass protection in my view) and Mims is really blossoming playing next to him. Get this done now, no need to wait. Report

Fairchild could end up being really good, powerful dude when he gets the leverage to use it. Good off-season and he should be a force next year. A better LT would help him, too, but that would require extra effort from some very complacent people. Patrick & Volson should be pushed off the roster, more likely through a side-grade in FA, or later UDFA/waiver dudes. Again, not holding my breath. They should to find their future LT (RT?) and center before it becomes another crisis. Report

I thought he was just another guy but I was wrong. He played well and helped solidify the interior OL once he took over full time. There’s no good reason it shouldn’t happen. As for the rest of the OL or the offense in general, I’m not viewing it as a priority compared to the other side of the ball. All five OL starters will be back if we keep Risner, along with 6th man Cody Ford. OBJ and Karras do eventually need long term replacements, but defensive reinforcements are a much more pressing need. A backup QB and probably a TE are also needed, but otherwise they are in pretty good shape besides adding depth on offense. Report

I’m thinking it would be a combination of free agents and draft picks. Something like 7-8 new players who can all compete to start on defense. Report

It's a plan, though, which may be an upgrade in itself. If tradition holds, they will pretend Stewart, Murphy, Jenkins, Jackson, & anyone else on the roster they feel invested in are doing great for at least 2 years beyond the point where they're the worst rated players at their position in the entire NFL. That's kind of their thing. They're equally invested in the rookie LB's.. So who are they replacing? Stone and... IDK. Another DE I guess? If we're expecting them to draft a new defense & everything will be great.. I guess last year it was Lou's fault, and this year it's Logan Wilson's fault. I don't know that they're capable of fixing it, period. Certainly not without admitting anything needs fixing in the first place. Report

There were a few bright spots (Turner, Dax, Murphy down the stretch) and another handful of young guys who will get a chance to play (Jenkins, Stewart, Knight, Carter). You can’t just give up on everyone after 1-2 years. I think they’ll add free agents at all 3 levels and supplement them with the draft. I don’t see any starting spots open on offense if they bring Risner back. Doesn’t make sense to invest there for the future when you currently have the worst defense in franchise history. Report

With another vet next to him I think Knight will be fine, maybe even damned good by the end of next year. Athletically he looks capable and he was a step behind a lot less towards the end there.I guess my thing is going from "improving" to "we should start all these guys next year". This defense was terrible. They couldn't stop the Browns last weekend. Expecting these same players to be something different next year is awfully hopeful. Report

Why are you defending having the smallest scouting department in the NFL? Of all things? If they were 12-5 and getting ready to play this weekend I would understand but.. they're not. They fielded a historically bad defense, went 6-11 losing some very winnable games down the stretch.. and yet you're in here like YEAH SUCK IT HATERS!!!!1 It's.. puzzling, to say the least. Like bringing a truck stop hooker to Thanksgiving dinner and convincing yourself everyone's just jealous. Report

Not sure why you often take such offense to someone's differing from your own - on a chat room where we are chatting. Report
