I havent been shy about my hate for kelsey conway, I havent been shy in pointing out no one within the team respects her or trusts her or likes here and she ONLY talks to agents, and her entire schtick is finding an angle to slam the bengals out of no where.

first of all, chase brown isnt that fucking good, everyone needs to calm the fuck down, he is the RB ON A TEAM WITH NOTHING BUT FEAR for the QB and WR's, chase brown is the least concern to defenses, he is talented, smart, improves, a great fit... chase brown on the browns is out of the league in a few years.. im not knocking chase brown, he is a good fit, and a fun player, he is also beefiting from his circustances, as he should, again, im not knocking it..

look at perine and his career, he is a nobody until he realized pass protection and latching onto pass header QB star offenses was his road to success, he also benefits from being the forgotten weapon.

anyway... Conway is trying some GOTCHA journalism predicting the team wont pay brown his worth and he will leave for greener pastures..

so a roster thats offense HEAVY on spending.. not paying or overpaying for a RB who can clearly be obtained in late rounds, is in. no way a shortcoming of that franchise or front office, its logic, common sense and reason.

Brown is an asset, a contributor, a fun and really good player, a fun fit for the offense, and can make some plays...

what chase brown is NOT, is vital to this team or offense. if someone wants tooverpay him, he will have to go chase that money elsewhere, he is only WORTH reasonable dollar amount here when that time comes.

Like Uzomah and Hayden Hurst Helmsley, the stars here will make guys look good and they can go get overpaid soemwhere else..

I think Brown should be extended and his value is probably around 10 mil per year, ie higher than Risner. But the Bengals will have about 80 mil at the start of the league year (unless they extend people before then) and can easily have more than 100 mil to spend. The bigger money extensions for Brown, Turner, and Hill can wait until summer time before camp opens. Extending Brown doesn't prevent them from signing anyone else.

this is correct.

but to his point, paying the 17th highest rushing RB in the league 10mil a year probably isnt a great spend. currently only the top 5 RB salaries are 10mil or more on the yearly average... the 17th ranked pay RB makes 2 million...

while rushing is slightly increasing in value in the leavue as teams switch to smaller faster rushers, its not enough to pivot so hard. every team is grabbing a few good guys mid and late draft and rolling with that..

minnesota is paying 2 of the top 10 paid RB, ravens have #2. raiders have #6. thats 40% of the top paid running backs sitting at home with us watching the playoffs..

the payoff just hasnt been there for that position.

If I may pivot from what's-her-face..

What if the offense was less reliant on keeping a 6th blocker at HB/TE for protection? We can talk about YPC or route-running, we have a couple of WR/TE's, but the rest are primarily blockers. Any RB on the roster is going to be asked to do that more than anything. It's not sexy, no one gets excited on draft day (unless its a 2nd round reach ) but even Brown is mostly blocking with the ball headed elsewhere. What's 15ish carries on average just to keep the D honest actually worth?

so IDK, do they still make fullbacks? or even like, Drew Sample but more so? If we're into day 3 picks.. For the amount of snaps these roles are seeing it'd be worth having one that's got a little more game than some ST utility player

id say Brown is chipping and going into a route more than blocking but your point stands and its mostly mine as well, we have top end weapons, Perine is just about as valuable as Brown in this offense style. and Perines are a dime a dozen and Browns are available on day 2 and 3 in the draft... just isnt a logical bet to spend any real money on the position.

They could reasonably go defense 1-7 but if not I hope it's OL.
