look at perine and his career, he is a nobody until he realized pass protection and latching onto pass header QB star offenses was his road to success, he also benefits from being the forgotten weapon.

Brown is an asset, a contributor, a fun and really good player, a fun fit for the offense, and can make some plays...

Like Uzomah and Hayden Hurst Helmsley, the stars here will make guys look good and they can go get overpaid soemwhere else..

I think Brown should be extended and his value is probably around 10 mil per year, ie higher than Risner. But the Bengals will have about 80 mil at the start of the league year (unless they extend people before then) and can easily have more than 100 mil to spend. The bigger money extensions for Brown, Turner, and Hill can wait until summer time before camp opens. Extending Brown doesn't prevent them from signing anyone else.

but to his point, paying the 17th highest rushing RB in the league 10mil a year probably isnt a great spend. currently only the top 5 RB salaries are 10mil or more on the yearly average... the 17th ranked pay RB makes 2 million...

while rushing is slightly increasing in value in the leavue as teams switch to smaller faster rushers, its not enough to pivot so hard. every team is grabbing a few good guys mid and late draft and rolling with that..

minnesota is paying 2 of the top 10 paid RB, ravens have #2. raiders have #6. thats 40% of the top paid running backs sitting at home with us watching the playoffs..

the payoff just hasnt been there for that position.

What if the offense was less reliant on keeping a 6th blocker at HB/TE for protection? We can talk about YPC or route-running, we have a couple of WR/TE's, but the rest are primarily blockers. Any RB on the roster is going to be asked to do that more than anything. It's not sexy, no one gets excited on draft day (unless its a 2nd round reach ) but even Brown is mostly blocking with the ball headed elsewhere. What's 15ish carries on average just to keep the D honest actually worth?

id say Brown is chipping and going into a route more than blocking but your point stands and its mostly mine as well, we have top end weapons, Perine is just about as valuable as Brown in this offense style. and Perines are a dime a dozen and Browns are available on day 2 and 3 in the draft... just isnt a logical bet to spend any real money on the position.

They could reasonably go defense 1-7 but if not I hope it's OL.

RB, easy-ish replacement in the draft. I don't think re-signing Chase will be a big issue. If he were talented on the level of say, Saquon Barkley, then there might be some pain. If he and his agent does try to get outrageous about the pay he will probably go on the Perine field trip. Bengals aren't in a position that one of their RBs has the juice to bully them.

agreed here, conway twit-y and his agent are talking like they need to get 12mil a year, if he wnts 6-7 thats fine and worth keeping around. aside from that, if you just have the sapce and nothing long term guaranteed is fine too, but i cant imagine a lower priority to "gotta keep this guy" on the roster.

Sounding like a team that can't afford to shovel the snow out of their stadium. If they want to escape the "discount franchise" image they should probably stop freaking out & rending their garments every time a starter gets close to free agency. Sure the RB position is mostly an afterthought in this offense, but they're also sitting on top 5-10 cap space. If it's not going to Brown where is it going? That's more my question.

Jeremyah Love would be an upgrade from Chase Brown but he's the only RB in the draft for whom that can be said. Last year had a strong RB group but this's class is thin.

Bengals would have to use a day 1 or 2 pick for a RB who starts or gets lots of snaps right away. If they pick someone and don't give them a lot of snaps, then they won't be in position to let Brown walk away next offseason since they won't know what they have.

It’s not even a Bengal fan thing…see it everywhere

Gio Bernard-type would feast in this offense. Don't see a whole lot of value in a trad RB. Don't fumble, block, catch.. Actually running the ball is far down the list of responsibilities & depends on the OL more than anything.. and ours kinda sucks at run blocking. If we want more YPC out of the position we need to get someone on the OL that can move the line of scrimmage. Until that happens we can expect more "no gain" runs, no matter who is getting the ball.

If Chase has displayed anything…it’s that he runs hard/downhill. He gets there and actually accelerates. A de facto “makes their own holes”…he attacks seams really well.

And yes, this team does not need Walter Payton…but a consistent 800 yds per year plus the receiving/blocking, is valuable

There’s nothing at all wrong with Chase Brown in this offense…no reason to go looking for a replacement, IMO.

Just look to build depth. Maybe find a younger version of Semaj. Other than that, I’d leave it alone.
