It… was… a… joke.

The rotational duo with Hill is upgraded

This could jumpstart his abilities in that role .

He’s going to be a major part of the rotation and will likely take equal snaps, so what difference does it makes who starts?

The more snaps Allen gets, the worse the Bengals defense will be, at least if he plays at his 2025 level. The Bengals had the 35th graded DT in BJ Hill, the 83rd in Kris Jenkins, and the 112th in TJ Slaton. So replacing Slaton looks like the obvious need. But instead we sign 84th ranked Jonathan Allen to take snaps from Hill and Jenkins. And pay him 14 mil instead of paying Lloyd 15 or Chenal 8 or Ebiketie 7.5.

It's just bad resource allocation. We're not asking them sign Franklin-Myers, but given they operate with a very low willingness to spend, why not fix the glaring holes with the money they are willing to spend? Now we're going into the draft needing to find starters among the college players.

Ok? What difference does it make who starts then? 🤷‍♂️

If that ends up being more rookies? Probably quite a bit of difference, from what we've seen lately

Unless they draft one at 10, which I can’t imagine they will, it definitely won’t be rookies.

Stewie might as well be, think they're crazy to trust Murphy, Jenkins doesn't smile enough and Jackson still has another year to snooze before Big Improvement. None of them have shown much of anything to earn a start.

& safe bet a rookie replaces one of them on the DL by midseason anyway.. let's hope it's not Hill or Mafe

It doesn’t. Allen will be part of the rotation at DT and he’s a better interior pass rusher than what we had last year.
