April 11Apr 11 comment_1824785 I'd want Bain. I'm a "trenches" guy and believe fully that dominate trenches make everyone else better, on both sides of the ball. I would have gone Sewell instead of Chase (I'm glad it turned out how it did). I remember when we drafted Levi Jones over Philip Buchannon and I was livid...after that played out I told myself I'd never be upset if we go trenches. Of course this team is testing that with back picks...Obwehi, Eric Fisher, Carman, Price, Shamar Stewart, Murphy, Jenkins, Zach Carter...I get missing on picks, but ALL of these guys were overdraft based on consensus boards except maybe Miles Murphy. April 12Apr 12 comment_1824851 i dont think any of the three will be there.the only hope is a second qb or 2 tackles go. I think there is a chance also, that styles and downs are there, with the draft so thick at both positions, especially in rounds 2-3. there are guys teams would have taken in the last first in previous drafts, that will be sitting there in the third. so depending if teams are looking at multiple needs like we are and knowing theyll have options day 2 to fill all of them if they go elsewhere in round 1.Downs is the most versatile.Styles is the biggest need and second most versatileBain is the biggest flash solo playerthat said downs is at a position of least need since they got cook of the threeStyles the most needBain the biggest splash and potentially biggest solo impact.any of the three turns the group into an impressive pile of talent. realized potential aside.Downs, Cook, Battle, Dugger - this is a deep versatile group with playoffs caliber depth and talent.Styles, Knight, Carter, Burks, Giles Harris is a very versatile group, I think something important to realize is that 3 safety looks and more flex 3-4 style looks with the athletic DE dropping coverage are going to be part of what Golden does. like if we had downs, youll see downs, cook and battle out there Downs roaming at LB range with just 2 LB, if they take styles, youll see styles out there but roaming the endge or pressure in middle, if we get Bain, youll hae about the healthiest rotation of pass rushers as well as the front 4 of Bain, Stewert, Murphy, Mafe coming at you on strict passing downs, without needing help (like they poorly used knight for).so i think my pick is Styles, but i would actually be more excited to see Downs or bain play out on the field as it creates some unique flexability and overload of talent in those groups. April 12Apr 12 comment_1824854 Hard to know what the Bengals front office's mindset is for the 1st round. I've been a little surprised by the interest in a couple of prospects that are generally projected to be picked in the 22-35 range, the nose tackle McDonald and the EDGE rusher Mesidor. Are they just preparing in case one of them somehow slides all the way down to pick 40? Is it in case they decide to trade back in the 1st? Or are these players they would actually consider taking at pick 10 if higher rated defensive players are off the board? Report

IIRC the last time they did that in the first round was to take Billy Price, skipping Frank Ragnow in the process (among others)? Brilliant. This insistence from some quarters that the Bengals draft as well as anyone in the NFL is so funny to me because no the fuck they do not. Quit playing. Report

Kind of like “if your guy is not there and ours is would you be willing to trade x for y?”. So you have to do your DD on all the possible scenarios. Report

Duke and Katie and especially Mike aren't very mentally flexible and able to make decisions quickly. Same reason they didn't tag Hendrickson. He obviously had a market as the best pass rusher available and team were willing to give him a 100+ mil contract but the Bengals couldn't work out the 2 required parts, letting him find a deal he liked while arranging compensation with another team.
