His ex-girlfriend, who first told police they had been in an altercation, later asked for charges to be dropped. Young pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct in January of 2025 and was reinstated by the team in March 2025.

  • 2025: Played in 8 games with 7 starts (26-358-13.8, TD). Missed midseason games with a fractured leg.

Draft Projection

Round 7

Overview

Young’s athletic traits, play strength and ball skills stand out, but missed games have limited his production. Teams will need to examine his 2024 arrest and suspension. On tape, he uses his size, muscle and catch radius to beat cornerbacks in tight quarters and above the rim. His speed and separation are average, so he’ll likely see a higher number of contested battles. His route-running needs work, but he’s a nightmare for cornerbacks to bring down after the catch. Young has talent to work with and -- provided teams are comfortable after their character evaluation -- has a chance to be more productive in the pros.

Strengths

  • Has prototypical size with large hands.

  • Size and strength to outmuscle cornerbacks for space.

  • Leaping and extension creates a tall high-point ceiling.

  • Flashes catch instincts that are missing with some prospects.

  • Consistent awareness of the boundary with his feet.

  • Tough to bring down after the catch.

  • Took gunner reps over the last two seasons.

Better than a poke-in-the-eye-with-a-sharp-stick I reckon.

6'5, 220 lb WR, who runs a 4.5 (40) ... certainly worth the risk at the end of round 4.

Another guy who is coming off an injury which likely pushed him down the board. But since the Bengals don't really need a starting WR they have time to develop him.

And Troy Walters is an excellent coach

Young is in play to start at WR especially in 2027 when Yoshi and Jones are free agents and with how much Chase plays the slot. Goodberry has said that we need an outside WR more, I didn't agree but this shows they do....My guess is Williams vs Jones for 6th and final WR spot.

If he doesn’t beat on girlfriends and unborn children…he’ll be a real upstanding character kind of person

BACKGROUND

Colbie Young, one of 15 children (eight boys, seven girls), was born and raised in Binghamton, N.Y. His older brother (Devin) was an

all-conference wide receiver at FCS Maine (2017-21) before transferring to Sacred Heart for the 2022 season. Young started playing

football at age 5, along with baseball and basketball. He was primarily a quarterback throughout youth league and at Binghamton’s

West Middle School. He led his 7-on-7 team to back-to-back undefeated seasons before deciding a move to wide receiver in high school

was best for his future. Young also played AAU basketball.

Young attended Binghamton High School, where he was a multisport standout. He joined the varsity team as a sophomore wide receiver

and immediately made an impact, posting eight touchdown grabs as Binghamton went 6-4 and made the 2017 state playoffs. As a

junior, Young was one of a few returning starters and caught 19 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns, which earned him all-state

honors for the second straight season. For his senior season in 2019, he recorded 47 receptions for 904 yards and 14 touchdowns, and

he became the first Section 4 player to earn first-team all-state since 2015. He also played basketball at Binghamton, starting on JV as a

freshman and sophomore before focusing on football as a junior. Young returned to basketball for his senior year and led the varsity

team in points per game (22.1) and high-flying dunks. He also averaged 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game and earned first-team

all-state, as he led Binghamton to its first Section 4 Class AA championship in a decade.

A no-star recruit, Young wasn’t ranked by 247 Sports Composite in the 2020 class. Before his senior season, he picked up his first

scholarship offer from FCS Maine (May 2019), where his brother was playing at the time. Young added offers from Albany, Furman,

Stony Brook and Western Carolina. Because of complications the COVID-19 pandemic added to the recruiting process, Young didn’t

initially sign anywhere and instead flirted with the idea of playing basketball at Binghamton University. After not playing football in

2020, Young ultimately signed with nearby Lackawanna (Pa.) College, which has produced several NFL players, including former

first-rounders Bryant McKinnie and Kevin White. He caught 24 passes for 472 yards and nine touchdowns in 2021 and led Lackawanna

to a 7-3 finish.

A three-star junior college recruit, Young received offers from Florida State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. However, interest

from Miami captured his attention, and he committed to head coach Mario Cristobal. After two seasons with the Hurricanes, he

transferred to Georgia for his final two years. Young accepted his invitation to the East-West Shrine Bowl.

STRENGTHS

● Tall, sinewy frame with broad shoulders, sturdy build and no bad weight

● Builds deceptive speed and loves to run posts and “9” routes

● Has shake quickness to win in his release and stack press corners

● Reads the hips of corners to attack leverage in his route

● Uses rangy frame to expand catch radius or win in traffic

● Most comfortable in intermediate to deep levels (75.7 percent of receptions at Georgia resulted in either a first down or touchdown)

● Tough to tackle — more slippery than expected for a receiver his size

● Uses size to his advantage as both a runner and blocker

● Strong character feedback from coaches and scouts (NFL scout: “He likes to be coached and is a student of the game … reserved but

polite. … He’ll fit in any locker room.”)

● Instead of preserving himself for the draft process after a 2025 leg injury, he rehabbed rigorously to return for the College Football

Playoff (Zachariah Branch: “Sometimes, people get injured and disappear, but he was nothing like that.”)

Back to table of contents 113

WEAKNESSES

● Not a true burner who can run by whomever he faces on the outside

● Gives press corners a large target at the line

● Early contact eliminates any nuance from his route, especially as an underneath target

● Attempts to use his eyes/head to hold corners, but his tells aren’t tough to spot

● Doesn’t have a special teams background

● Suffered fractured left fibula with a torn ligament, which required surgery and sidelined him for 6 games (October 2025)

● Arrested on misdemeanor charges of battery and assault (Oct. 2024); suspended from team, didn’t play in final nine games of 2024

season because of ongoing investigation; accuser later retracted her statement and initial charges were dropped; Young pleaded no

contest to lesser charge of disorderly conduct (Jan. 2025) and received 12 months probation

SUMMARY

A starter for one-and-a-half years at Georgia and a three-year starter overall, Young was an outside X receiver in offensive coordinator

Mike Bobo’s offense. From the junior college level to Miami and then to Athens, he took a winding road to the NFL’s doorstep — and his

past two seasons didn’t go quite as planned, for several reasons. But he was productive when on the field and fought hard to get back for

Georgia’s College Football Playoff game versus Ole Miss after fracturing his leg.

With his long, sturdy frame, Young passes the eye test and shows his basketball background at the catch point. He comfortably attacks

the ball with graceful body control and uses his ball skills to win in contested situations (his value in the red zone is an untapped

resource). He is a build-up mover and lacks the suddenness or immediate speed to easily create separation, but he has lighter feet than

most players his size. Overall, Young is a big-framed athlete with fluid, long strides and the strong hands needed to

consistently come down with the rock. He is an attractive option for an NFL team seeking a player who’s stylistically

similar to Courtland Sutton.

There's unfortunately some character red flags as well ...

Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Colbie Young was arrested on October 8, 2024, on misdemeanor charges of battery and assault on an unborn child following an altercation with a pregnant woman. He later pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct in January 2025, receiving 12 months probation, a $500 fine, and mandated attendance at a family violence intervention program.

Yeah this reeks of Ol' Musty imo.. He can fix him!

Seriously who else is going to see battery and assault of an unborn child and think "that's the guy!"

Uninvolved, my ass. On to the next pick I guess. Bengals gotta Bengal.
