Draft Projection

Rounds 4-5

Overview

Tackle-to-center prospect with well-composed frame, good body control and sound technique. Parker consistently centers his blocks and operates with inside hands/good grip strength. He gets to his landmarks under control as a move blocker, has average drive strength on gap-scheme blocks and constantly covers his target. His underhook punch has some pepper to it, but below-average length makes timing and anchor essential. He plays with a quality mirror and clearly sees rush games. Parker’s measurables are average but he plays like a future starting center with guard flexibility.

Strengths

  • Should offer immediate C/G roster flexibility.

  • Plays with inside hands and grip strength to latch in.

  • Effective landmarks and timing on cut-offs and climbs.

  • Finds center of block fits using footwork and subtle adjustments.

  • Movements in pass/run are very controlled and balanced.

  • Throws underhook punch with good force.

  • Redirects weight to maintain a fluid protection mirror.

  • Sees rush games developing and quickly responds.

Another center? Can one of them play guard?

Not sure of official position since he played more than one, so will use "OL" until that's clarified.

There we go, a presumably healthy option should the worst happen with Karras. Maybe one of the two even pushes Rivers a little. Lew looks like a better pick with some insurance but I'm a little surprised they doubled down.

Let's post the "Weaknesses" from the draft scouts, too, though. We can do that here.

Weaknesses

  • Average mass and play strength along the interior.

  • Can be beaten by long defenders.

  • Pushes as drive blocker but lacks drive power in his lowers.

  • Average depth of anchor against power.

  • Will have to quicken his punch pace due to lack of length.

  • Average recovery and redirect once rusher hits his edge.

Think he's the potential Ford replacement

I see him as an OL6 who can back up all 5 positions. Good positional value in that case.

It would be awesome to have a 6th OL that's not an immediate "aw shit" moment if we see him come off the sideline.

Two Centers? Can at least one do a decent job at OG? Would've gone with OT Crownover from TAMU.

Scouts seem to think he could potentially fill in anywhere on the OL.

I like how he looks for someone to pickup, slides off a block to go after another defender, and goes up to the second level to another defender. An attacker. Could turn out very good.

Fairchild has this in his game as well, something that stood out despite appearing lost at times (as rookie OL tend to do.) He's always looking for someone to hit. Can't really coach that. Good eye there TJ.

Contrast this with OBjr doing the little block-nobody shuffle followed by performative "aw shucks" clap as Joe picks himself up off the turf. Better to block the wrong guy than no guy at all, I would think.

I like taking RTs and moving them inside, so I think he differently has starting potential at G/C as well.
