*** [RD 7] Bengals Select ~ LANDON ROBINSON, DT ***

This kid is going to give our OL fits in TC. He’s worth a 7th just for that.

Not playing for Navy, he's not. They have never had a first-round pick.

And he would have to transfer before the start of his jr year to avoid his service obligation.

As of 2026, they can defer their active duty obligations and do recruiting (assume during the offseason), but he is eventually going to have to serve.

IKR? Never mind nuclear-powered carriers just set this guy up with oars. Fuckin' unreal.

They say leverage in the trenches is lowest man wins. He's already got a head start :)

(Love the pick)

I'm sure Landon can get whatever he needs done with one phone call ... If he becomes a star he's way more valuable to the Navy as a recruiting/PR tool.

I'm happy for this kid, I just wish the NFL would respect Pat Tillman's family's wishes and stop using him for propaganda.

We pay them to advertise the armed forces.. and they're happy to take the money. They'd run ads for crack if it were legal, just ask Bodog or whoever.

Love that his dad is a lifelong Bengals fan ... Make the Disney movie now. 🎥

Member that other Landon, Johnson x5 or so? With the big shoulder brace? Who's gonna worry about getting hit by some underweight dude in a shoulder brace?

Noooooo-body!!

Who was the DC at that time? Was that Frazier? Really strange group of LBs there for a moment, like they were trying to play 4 safeties almost. They could cover but then any team with a ground game would hang 150+ on them. Unless memory fails..

I remember they drafted Johnson (whose nickname was something like 'The Assassin' for some reason) and also Caleb "Pubie" Miller at LB in that draft. As you say, athletic guys that weren't so stout at the point of attack

Proof his nickname was 100% no doubt "Pubie":

Caleb Miller, Sulphur Springs, Outside Linebacker

Also no doubt it affected him, and he became Caleb "Emo Boy" Miller:

Miller got that one SI cover after a Stealers game. Possibly the high point of his career

Yup I remember Landon Johnson. Took him in the 3rd round.

Wiki says he signed a 3 year deal with Carolina after his rookie deal expired but got concussed by his own teammate (Beason) & was cut the following year. One season in what looks like a backup role for Detroit and out of the league.

Let's hope this Landon does a little better. That'd make him a hell of a steal as a 7th round pick

The Pat Tillman Foundation was involved with the announcement of the pick. I'm sure his family is involved with the foundation that bears his name.

I'm amazed Navy ever allowed a guy his size to the academy. Don't they have size restrictions? They don't want huge human beings on those ships

As a graduate of the Naval Academy, he automatically becomes a commissioned officer. He won’t be the average everyday swabbie. And many naval officers never get on the high seas.

Figure he would be a heckuva SeaBee though

If he doesnt make the team he could find work as the cart carrying Mike around, you know the one he drives around every practice while having absolutely no input 🥷

I don't remember what their max weight is, I think it's around 250. They have a height limit of 6'6" but a % of each class can exceed those limits. I lived in Annapolis when David Robinson was there. He wore the same style uniform as the rest of the brigade but wasn't hard to spot in formation.

That's what I thought. I doubt the Navy is too keen on sub 6' guys weighing 293
