Military Chaplains come under fire

... in prayer.

Alot of this was kicked around last month when The Air Force Academy released it's 2005 HQ USAF Religous Climate Review concluded June 22nd.

In addition, Barry Lynn, the Executive Director for Americans United for Seperaton of Church and State, sent letter to the SECDEF, in regards to the media reports of Religous discrimination and the closeness of the Academy to the Evangelistic Christians. Their lawyers were sent to the academy, interviewed Cadets and deemed that the charges merit attention:
A Protestant Chaplain told the Cadets in attendance to return to their tents and proselytize (convert) cadets that had not attended with the declared penalty for failure to this proselytization " they will burn in hell".
Additionally, Cadets that declined to attend prayer service after dinner were humilated by being placed into something called a "Heathen Flight" and marched back to their dormitories.
Fisher Deberry name was mentioned, because he told members of his football team that he expected to see them at Easter Services. That one is kinda weak <_< The last complaint revolved around mandatory prayer at official functions.
Now, citing various legal matters e.g. Rubin vs City of Burbank (references to "Jesus Christ" in prayers that opened city-council meetings held unconstitutional), they want the ommission of invoking the name of Jesus Christ in prayer.

The academy has proposed to increased discussion of spirituality linked to the "human spirit" as opposed to religous belief systems. :o Navy Chaplains are already decrying this proposal
IMO, I did not realize how zealous the Academy was in it's Evangelistic views, it appears they were over-reaching in those views. But you can't stop Chaplains from their belief system.
