The Brewers Meet The Furries

When the Milwaukee Brewers played in pissburgh this week, they ended up staying at the same hotel as a Furry Convention. (It's actually the Furry Convention.) That's Bob Uecker and one of them above. The notion of the Milwaukee Brewers hanging out in the same hotel as Furries might seem funny to you, but not to Brewers broadcaster Jim Powell.

"Virtually everyone, even those who looked otherwise "normal", had a tail sticking out of their clothes in the back. Players and staff reported neighboring rooms generating loud animal noises, barking and other, deep into the night. At first it was kind of funny to see these people wandering around the downtown streets and filing into the hotel, but after the novelty wore off it just made everyone feel creepy. The "furries" seem harmless enough, but people who think they might be an animal trapped in a human body just are unnervingly odd, to say the least."

Perhaps this is why the Brewers struggled so much in pissburgh this week; it can be difficult to sleep when you're hearing howls of Furries all night. It can be difficult to sleep just thinking about it now, actually.

A Hair-Raising Time In pissburgh
pissburgh, PA-

Having the Furry convention at our hotel in pissburgh was quite disturbing, to be honest. If you missed our discussion of it on the Wednesday broadcast, it might be worth seeking at mlb.com. What is a Furry? From their newsgroup definition (alt.lifestyle.furry):

1. an anthropomorphic animal character. i.e. an animal with human characteristics.
2. a human who relates strongly, in whatever way, to the idea of the characters outlined in the previous definition. This may involve anything from a person who simply enjoys viewing furry fanzines or films, to someone who actually desires to be a 'real' furry, or believe that they are literally a non-human trapped within a human form.
3. a person with an important emotional/spiritual connection with an animal or animals, real, fictional or symbolic.

That is their self-description. For those of us who had no knowledge of these types of people, it was kind of like being dropped into the middle of a "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" movie. The lobby was packed with human beings dressed in various animal costumes. Going up the elevator is unsettling when you are packed in with a bunch of people who look like they hadn't left their mother's basements since the last convention. Virtually everyone, even those who looked otherwise "normal", had a tail sticking out of their clothes in the back. Players and staff reported neighboring rooms generating loud animal noises, barking and other, deep into the night. At first it was kind of funny to see these people wandering around the downtown streets and filing into the hotel, but after the novelty wore off it just made everyone feel creepy. The "furries" seem harmless enough, but people who think they might be an animal trapped in a human body just are unnervingly odd, to say the least. I know this: I've never seen anything like it in my 23 years of traveling and broadcasting sports, and I hope I never do again. Kent Sommerfeld snapped a few shots to put into "Kent's Korner" here on the website, so you can take a quick glimpse yourself if you want. You'd have to be in the crowded lobby surrounded by those costumes listening to them interact to get a full feel for what the Brewers experienced the last couple of days here. The only positive is that it will make the politicians who await us in Washington D.C. seem much more like human beings than they have before.
and some of you wonder why stealer fans act like they do... seriously, wtf is in the water over there?
Anyone remember the CSI: Vegas episode that had this kind of stuff in it?
LOL.....Yeah I do remember that. They all got into big piles and would hump on one another while they were in their costumes.

$50 says that's how the steelers practice a fumble recovery.
