[u]Lecter lock-up for Saddam

march 1st, 2005

FALLEN Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein will be tried in one of his palaces, sitting inside a top-security Hannibal Lecter-style cage.

The white reinforced metal cage will be similar to the one used to house the serial killer played by Anthony Hopkins in the 1991 film Silence of the Lambs, London's Sun newspaper reported.
Quoting an unidentified source, it said that during the trial -- possibly to be held next year -- Saddam will be housed in an underground cell, and will travel to and from the courtroom cage via a lift.

Saddam is facing charges of war crimes and genocide, and will be tried before Iraqi judges in the palace inside Baghdad's Green Zone.

Other members of his regime will also face trials, beginning later this year.
