... I would argue the Bengals do it in reverse. They took a short arm "natural guard" (Jonah) and tried to play him at tackle.

To me body measurements, arm length, mobility, strength, athleticism, and weight distribution determine "natural" position in the NFL more than what someone played in college.

    A lot depends, I suppose.

But Jonah was a consensus All-American tackle at Alabama—with a throwing QB. Pass blocking was obviously comfortable for him.

Carman was an anchor LT for Sunshine at Clemson. It’s what he played.

Whitworth was a natural tackle at LSU. The Bengals tried to jam him at guard initially. It didn’t work.

1000 Whatabouts for all kinds of players. Not sure metrics always fit

  2. That actually doesn’t look too bad. I had mentioned that I heard Wilson on the radio the other day, and was impressed by his demeanor and (apparent) urge to keep improving. Not the big receiver type, but in looking at his film, he has very good speed, explodes out of routes and has the factor you want in any receiver: catches the ball. Doesn’t look wiry either—more bulk than you may think.

Might mean Patch-an-Offensive-Line for another season, but…

It isn't like Byron Murphy is just a pass rusher, he has some quality run defender traits too...

Murphy plays with terrific leverage and has the lower body strength that gives him a strong base as a run defender. His relentless motor and short-area quickness cause him to be a major factor when pursuing a play laterally.

    Sold.

  4. The experience factor is the main thing. If he is all that and a bag of chips, one would think he would have been starting sooner. If that were solely due to injuries, then that is another area to ponder

He is certainly a physically gifted player, and at 18, not that much of a reach (if that is even applicable). If he is going to develop, that would be evident in the first season.

Not that huge of a risk.

Ultimately, I really think they'll go T, especially if someone like Fuaga or Latham is there.

Agree. I know that Mims is the “intriguing” prospect…but I’m not feeling it for some reason.

Then again, it’s not my choice. They will get one heckuva prospect/good football player at 18 regardless of who he is. So will everyone else. That is why my standard expression is “Everyone wins on Draft Day”

What BAC did Sweat blow? Big difference between the .08 minimum for DUI and a .15 or higher. It's weird that he blew it on Sunday afternoon, was he really wasted from Saturday night and thought he was good to drive?

Perhaps a small observation, but Austin news says he was “booked into Travis County Jail at 2:12pm…”, but that he was “arrested overnight”.

That would make more sense. A person can be arrested for suspicion, but not charged/booked until later.

  7. 2am maybe? Whatever, not important.

Again, maybe the guy is going to be shit anyway, maybe not. If not…and gets passed over by the Bengals soley due to this incident…watch him get swiped up by the Stealers or the Rats. Then everyone can complain as to why the Bengal offensive line can’t move him out of the way and run the football.

  8. To be honest, each and every draftee—those exposed to the big man on campus limelight’s anyway—have “character concerns”. Being a dumbass getting caught while driving is really just being a dumbass getting caught.

All these dudes party—and in a town like Austin with its many watering holes—I’m surprised more dumbasses don’t get caught.

Sweat seems to have other issues too.

What other issues are those? Just weight?

Seen the clips of him on the field. He doesn’t look like he takes plays off. Motor looks sound.

Like I said, he may not be everything and a bag of chips. Might be what is so desperately needed as an interior run stopper. Might not.

But to give some 22-year old college dumbass a “baggage” moniker after this, is a tad harsh.

  10. If the guy is all that and a bag of chips, then a flub-up by a 22-year old college kid should not deter them from taking the chance to shore up arguably the weakest area of their defense.

“Character concerns” has always made me lol. If someone is pushing narcotics or trafficking children…then it’s a non-stater. A boozy (and who the heck knows what “drunk” is in Texas anyway) night out in Austin does not a Tony Montana make.
