  1. IND (7-6) v PIT (7-6) - winner joins us at (8-6)

Some are arguing that a PIT win is better for us because we play them and IND has a soft schedule.  I say that an IND win is better because we hold the tiebreak over IND and will likely lose any tiebreak to any AFC-N team.  Best case is a tie, but failing that I'm rooting for IND..... they're soft and perfectly capable of losing games they should win.  We need to put PIT behind us in the standings to win a tiebreak against them, and that journey starts with them getting a 7th loss today.

We're alone in the #6 spot.  IND wins, we remain #6.  PIT wins and they bump us to #7.   I'm not rooting for either team, but I'm rooting against PIT more than IND.

    DEN (7-6) v DET

    Go Lions - of course.

TBH, as bad as last week's 3-0 game was at least people could turn away to watch something else.  I was forced to sit and watch last year's Colts-Broncos debacle on Thursday Night Football.  Raiders-Vikings was NOT a national game, Colts- Broncos was.  Here's what I shared back then after that clusterfuck of a game ended:

    Quote

    Punt - FG - Punt - Punt - Punt - Punt - Punt - FG - Interception - Punt - FG - End of Half - Punt - FG - Blocked FG - Interception - FG - Punt - Interception - Punt - Punt - Interception - FG - End of Regulation - FG - Downs

Photo: Final play.  Denver needing one yard for a first down, Wilson completely forgetting to look to his right at a player who was wide open for a game-winning TD.
Fugly fugly fugly.  Thankfully it's over and we don't have to watch Denver or Indy play again for ELEVEN DAYS!

I cannot believe I started Russell Wilson in this sh1tf3st of a game.  This Thursday Night Football game has set the NFL back 40 years.

Colts, Broncos.... wall-to-wall ineptitude on display.

  3. Figured I'd post this before LT does.

"That was a cracking offsides call eh chap?  I remember back in the FA Cup Finals of ought-three that 'Pool had an equalizer denied over a tetchy call when Jurgen was clearly in an overlap with the last Villa defender - I'm certain the Linesman had a quid or two on the outcome of that match, as it was BOLLOCKS to make that call otherwise.

    Bubble and Squeak!"

Bengals really could've used a Chiefs win over Buffalo today.

    How do you figure?

We beat BUF head to head and a win wouldn't put them ahead of us in the standings.  Them winning or losing today han no impact on our position, and unless we win the division KC doesn't matter to us.

BAL's win today puts them 3 up with 4 to play AND with the 2-0 sweep of us, so the division is as good as gone.

The only satisfaction comes from KC having to play road payoff games - which Mahomes has NEVER done. The lower their seed the more of those they get.  A BUF win didn't hurt us, a KC loss adds to their misery and makes more road playoff games more likely.

I was steadfastly rooting for BUF today.  Everybody should've IMO, unless there's something I've overlooked?. :)

The NFL can be a very odd organization at times. They worry about useless shit like this because if the possible effect on the gambling angle; yet they completely ignore the obvious officiating crisis that has a much larger effect on the gambling side of the business.

And they ignore that a high-profile insider -slash- spokesman has become so obsessed over this that it's beginning to look like he definitely lost money on that game.

If Florio or Rappaport or others like them are allowed to bet on NFL games, their reporting of breaking news - or their decision to suppress said reporting - may affect legal bets being placed, impacting the odds and skewing payouts in their favor.

Worse, if they end up losing a large bet, they may be encouraged to manufacture a "conspiracy" such as this one, claiming that info they would have reported upon was kept from them, and calling for a sort of Spanish Inquisition to root out those responsible. It helps them PR-wise, as they seem to be taking on the "big bad NFL" as a champion of justice, and solidify the perception of them being a victimized insider, thwarted from doing their job by a conspiracy to cover-up "the truth".  All of this is a lie, of course, if it turns out the motivation is due to a large lost bet....

Florio has lost credibility, and his PFT subscriber numbers are likely down since he began this irrational obsessive pursuit.

  6. But we don't play the Glory or Dragons this year, and this is an "enemies" thread.... so circling us back onto topic.

We play Dolts, needing to pass them if we're to get into the Wildcard mix.  A win draws us even and gives us the tiebreak over them (like we have over Buffalo).  Then the Dolts play a rested Stealers team who has the tiebreak over US and who we also need to pass to get into the mix. But there might be an advantage to the Dolts losing that game

Hear me out.  Consider what might happen if the whole AFC North gets into the playoffs.  Someone has to finish 4th, and right now it's us by a game AND all the tiebreakers, so call it a game and a half.  There are only five games to play.

I have every confidence that playing at home or away for any playoff games will make no difference - just get in and let the team do the rest.  But regardless we get a 4th place schedule next year.  That's Carolina (Andy), New England (Zappe) and Vegas (who knows?) while BAL would get Atlanta (The Riddler), Miami (Tua) and KC (Mahomes), CFT gets Tampa (Mayfly), Buffalo (Allen) and Denver (Russ), and PIT gets New Orleans (Carr), Jets (Rodgers?) and Chargers (Herbert) (based on current standings).

Oh yeah…that was the time in the Spanish Pyrenees when we were driving a rental Peugeot in which the radio wouldn’t work unless the windshield wipers were on.

    I remember it well.

It was a Citroen.  Which is French for "Lemon".  And it was the headlights - if they were on the radio had no power.

Same car we gave a ride to Peter Hadhazy and, I believe, Ken Einhorn in after the team buses left Montjuic for the hour-long drive from Barcelona to Santa Suzana.

    I remember it weller.  ; )

  8. Meanwhile, the Stealers seem to have been found guilty of hiding evidence of a concussion suffered by TJ Watt on national TV Thursday Night.... to the point where he was given smelling salts and even a helmet with a tinted visor so none of the refs or cameras could see his pupils after the coaching staff and trainers sent him back onto the field.

    But Florio is silent.

Either a double standard OR Mikey didn't have money on this game.

Note: Several of us ordered her 2024 Cincinnatus: The Gentleman Tiger calendars.  I got mine this week - they're terrific....

    20231208_124434.jpg

She has sold out of them EXCEPT for a few that have tiny imperfections on the cover. They're discounted by >20%.  Here's her blurb about them:

"25% of the purchase price goes to Perfectly Imperfect Pet Rescue, a new charity in Ohio run by a fellow Bengals fan and working to help pets – especially cats! – who are unwanted or ill. This is a cause very close to my heart, and it seems only right that The Gentleman Tiger helps out his smaller brothers and sisters 🙂  Support your team, an independent artist, and a local charity, all with one purchase!

Calendars will be shipped from here in Nova Scotia, so likely won’t make it before Christmas now. I will ship them as soon as I can!"
