    Someone hit a bridge

Bridges are some of the easiest things NOT to hit.  They're designed to not be hit, and as they don't move they're really predictable.

Bear left, the bridge moves to the right.  Bear right, the bridge moves to the left.  Accelerate, the bridge moves toward you quicker.  If the bridge is approaching too fast, slow down to slow IT down.  And if you're worried it might hit you, stop.... it will stop.  It moves at a constant speed of ZERO.  All you gotta do to not hit it is to Not. Hit. It.

Unless you're drunk, then better you hit that bridge than me in my car.

As an aside, Stevie G should get congratulations for his laying an amazing foundation top to bottom (coaching-wise) in Aston Villa’s rise in the Premier League. He was sacked before experiencing the fruits of his labors, but it’s all him.

Ah, those bring back cracking memories of Villa, eh chap?  I remember back in the FA Cup Finals of ought-three that 'Pool had an equalizer denied over a tetchy call when Jurgen was clearly in an overlap with the last Villa defender - I'm certain the Linesman had a quid or two on the outcome of that match, as it was BOLLOCKS to make that call otherwise.

  3. Today is Sam Wyche's birthday.  January 5th.

I always make a point to remember people on the anniversary of their birth rather than the random date upon which they were taken from us. We are made better when important people enter our lives, and are diminished when they depart.  Let's choose to celebrate the former.

    Happy birthday, Coach.

  4. Update..... the Playoff Machine had an error it in yesterday that has apparently been fixed.  I stupidly relied upon it being accurate, so my scenarios and flowchart captured that error.

It incorrectly showed PIT as eliminated with a loss if HOU, TEN, DEN and MIA all won.  Turns out, if TEN and DEN both win, then the HOU-IND and DEN-MIA games don't matter, PIT are the 7 seed.  The corrected scenarios are:

    PIT eliminated if:
    (1) PIT loses + JAX win
(2.) PIT loses + LVR win
    (3) JAX win + BUF win (regardless of what PIT does)

PIT gets the 6 seed if:
    (1) PIT win + TEN win + MIA win

PIT gets the 7 seed if:

    (1) PIT win + JAX win + MIA win
    (2) PIT win + TEN win + BUF win
    (3) PIT lose + TEN win + DEN win

    Which simplifies the flowchart:

    TheSteelersThe.jpg

    CBS lists these:

PITTSBURGH can clinch a playoff berth with:
    1. PIT win + BUF loss
    2. PIT win + JAX loss or tie
    3. PIT win + HOU-IND tie
    4. PIT tie + JAX loss + HOU-IND doesn’t end in a tie
    5. JAX loss + DEN win + HOU-IND doesn’t end in a tie

If we ignore the word "tie":

PITTSBURGH can clinch a playoff berth with:
    1. PIT win + BUF loss
    2. PIT win + JAX loss
    5. JAX loss + DEN win

    Which matches the flowchart.

  5. I've got this weirdly colored Bengals ski cap - officially licensed - but it sure looks like Lions colors:

I'll be wearing it to the game on Sunday along with my St Louis BattleHawks AJ McCarron jersey, as I transition from being a Bengals regular season fan into a Lions playoffs fan.  And why not, David Montgomery and Sam LaPorta carried my fantasy team to the Fantasy Bowl this year.  :)

And to whomever mentioned a Bills-Lions SuperBowl this year, count me in!

  6. If y'all want PIT to be sucking rocks and miss out on the playoffs, there are a LOT of ways this can happen:

    PIT eliminated if:
    (1) PIT loses + JAX win
    (2) PIT loses + LVR win
    (3) PIT loses + HOU win + MIA win
    (4) JAX win + BUF win (regardless of what PIT does)

PIT gets the 6 seed if:
    (1) PIT win + TEN win + MIA win

PIT gets the 7 seed if:

    (1) PIT win + JAX win + MIA win
    (2) PIT win + TEN win + BUF win

    (3) PIT lose + IND win + TEN win + DEN win
    (4) PIT lose + HOU win + TEN win + DEN win + BUF win

It's stupidly complicated, so here's a flowchart.  The green OUT circle is where we want them to go:

    TheSteelersThe.jpg

For the hated Colts, it's easier:

If IND>HOU, they make the playoffs

    - Will be 4 seed if TEN>JAX

    - Will be 6 seed if JAX>TEN + MIA>BUF

    - Will be 7 seed if JAX>TEN + BUF>MIA

    If HOU>IND, they're eliminated

  7. 2024 Opponents:

HOME: BAL CFT PIT LVR KCC PHI WAS TEN

AWAY: BAL CFT PIT LAC DEN DAL NYG NEP CAR

Based on 3-year AFC and 4-year NFC rotation.  (In 2020 we played at DAL/NYG and hosted PHI/WAS, and in 2021 we played at DEN/LAC and hosted LVR/KCC)

TEN/NEP may be reversed, but I think we travel to the AFC East opponent (because we hosted Buffalo this year), so we would host the AFC South opponent.

  8. Well.... if it's any consolation, we secured the 4th place schedule for 2024.  That means at New England (4-12), vs Tennessee (5-11) and at Carolina (2-14)... combined (11-37 0.229)

Based on the standings right now:

    Baltimore gets Miami (11-5), Jacksonville (9-7) and Tampa (8-8)... combined (28-20, 0.583)

Cleveland gets Buffalo (10-6), Indianapolis (9-7) and New Orleans (8-8)... combined (27-21, 0.563)

    Pittsburgh gets Jets (6-10), Houston (9-7) and Atlanta (7-9)... combined (22-26, 0.458_=)

    We're gonna feast.

I'm gonna take down the Christmas tree & decorations during the early games and then I will also settle in for the evening for our game & a nice drink or 2. It doesn't even feel like NYE to me, just another night. But I am not a whipper snapper anymore.

Here, tradition dictates that the Bengals tree stays up until Epiphany, the end of our season, or whenever I get around to it... whichever is later.

Watching the Clowns O-line who are down several guys just impose their will while ours can't do much of anything is depressing.

But CFT's opponent tonight is from their 4th place schedule. Nobody else in the North gets to play the Jests this year. We played BUF from our 1st place schedule. CFT is feasting due to the lack of schedule strength tonight, IMO.

  11. For the record:

    - As tiring as it is to always see the predictable cutaway to the VIP booth whenever the Chefs do something commendable on the field, I get why the networks are doing this. They're catering (pandering?) to the demographic that wants to see it - teens and non-football chicks. They're taking the opportunity they've been gifted with and are running with it.  I don't doubt that a percentage of "Swifties" tune in to Chefs games specifically to see her.

    - I don't mind her rooting for her boyfriend. If I were a Homosexual Man and had a boyfriend playing football, I would cheer like a junior high girl when he did something good, too.  Sure, she's in her 30s and it's not a great look, but when she's shown next to Mahomes' wife, even acting all sophomoric likes that still makes her look like the "adult in the room."

    - I have to admit, until recently I had no idea who she was.  I even saw those Capital One commercials where some girl picks out a cardigan sweater and didn't have a clue that that was a pop culture reference.  Now, thanks to the NFL, there's no doubt that I know who she is.  So add her own marketing to that done by the NFL and the networks, and it seems like there's no segment of the population left out of the equation.  If someone like me now knows who Taylor Swift is on sight, how many non-football TV viewers now know who the Chefs (and their opponents) also are in sight?  More exposure equals more fans equals more revenue equals higher salary cap numbers.

No, I don't get all "swoony" when they show her on TV, and I cringe when I see things like that handshake thing she did with Mrs Mahomes, but at least I know it's coming.
